Best/Worst of Makeup and More

I post a lot of reviews on here, y'all. And one of my fave types of reviews would be Best/Worst.

I'll take a certain makeup type, like liquid lipsticks, test a ton of them, and then present the best/worst to you.

Since I've posted so many over the years, sometimes those posts get lost in the shuffle.

I wanted to share a roundup of my roundups. I did all of the hard work for you! Which ones have you missed?

Beauty Find of the Week: Hot Sock Hair Diffuser

Beauty find of the week time! Here's a beauty cheap treat that I LOVE, and I think you will too:

Random fact: the crown of my hair is naturally wavy. Sometimes, especially when I'm at the beach, it's easier to let the natural waves out than fool with curling irons and such. And when I travel, I don't always want to lug the 'ol diffuser around. For years I used a cotton sock and a hair elastic, but I wanted something that worked better.

This week's beauty find is the perfect travel diffuser and takes up no room in the suitcase.

I've got 2 options:

Hot Sock Hair Diffuser--Find this online and Urban Outfitters--$6

Plimatic Mitt Diffuser by Conair--This is pictured in the bottom right-hand corner. I like this one because it has a tight elastic fit. Find online and at Sally Beauty--$4.29 ($3.99 if you're a beauty club member)

Simply slide it on the nozzle of the hair dryer (pictured above) and use. And yes, it works on all of my hair, so if you have curly/wavy/permed hair, you might want to check this one out!

Or keep it in mind as a stocking stuffer for later.

What's your latest beauty find?

Extra Elle:
  • Got my hair done last week--the BEST! My hairstylist is going on maternity leave, so it was last time with her for a while.
  • I've had the past week off (I was in Charleston) so it's back to work I go today. Can't wait to see the kids and hear about their trip!
  • Thanks to everyone who's been watching my Instagram stories--I am loving the interaction!

DIY Green Tea Mask & Scrub

I took a couple of days off the blog to get over this end-of-summer cold. I get one this time of year every year. I'm feeling so much better--thanks for your sweet words. And I'm convinced this mask I'm sharing today helped me feel better. I've been using this green tea mask for years--because it works. It's a 2-in-1: part mask, part scrub, all good. Enjoy.

Need:
  • 3 tsp green tea (depends on brand, but this is usually 3 bags)
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 3 tsp greek yogurt
  • bowl
  • spoon
  • optional: facial brush (I sometimes use a tint brush to help with mess, but clean fingers work just as well)
Do:
  • Pour the yogurt and brown sugar into bowl. Cut open tea tags and add unbrewed green tea to the bowl. Mix.
  • Apply to face and leave for 20 minutes.
  • With clean fingers, gently scrub mask in circular motions for a minute or two.
  • Wash away carefully with warm water.
  • You can make extra and keep refrigerated up to a month.
Why This Works:
  • Green tea is an antioxidant and also helps with redness and water retention. When I'm sick, my face looks puffy and red, so I love green tea to help (I drink it too).
  • Brown sugar is an exfoliant. My skin gets very dry when I take decongestants, and this helps with the dry skin.
  • Yogurt provides moisture and soothes skin--so helpful with my skin.
Try:
  • No yogurt? Try regular sour cream. You can also substitute a regular cream moisturizer, just remember you have to rinse it away.
  • Sometimes I substitute fresh, ground parsley instead of green tea, especially if I have a pimple.
  • To make this just a scrub, add one more tsp of brown sugar and one less tsp of yogurt.

What's In My Mailbox? Mascara, Lipgloss, Nail Polish & More!

Hey you! We made it to Friday! This week seemed to drag by for me. Anyway, I thought I would share with you some of my mail that I've received for PR consideration within the past few months. I got this idea from That Laurie Girl, and thought you would enjoy these mini-reviews!

Milani Baked Bronzers--These two limited edition shades are being sold only for a limited time, so your best bet is to order online. These matte bronzers come in two shades. The darker shade (Sunset) showed up great on me for contouring, and the lighter shade (Sienna) was excellent for a little color. If you have light skin, try Sienna. $8.99

Younique 3-D Fiber Mascara--These are all over my Instagram, but when Daphne (see her blog here) contacted me to try them, I thought I'd give them a shot. I'm so glad I did!  Essentially there are two products: a transplanting gel is used after mascara, then the fibers are applied, and then set with the gel. Here are the wands up close:
The fibers are taken from green tea and are water-resistant, but wash away very easily at the end of the day. While you can apply the product for as many coats as you want, I preferred just one light coat:
This is at the end of the day, after removing from one eye!

I found it really easy to use and received many compliments on my lashes. If you have short lashes or just want lashes that last throughout the day, I highly suggest you give these a try. Get your own for $29 here.

Probelle Touchn'grow--I have very thin, peeling nails. It has been this way my entire life--my toes are the same way. I even stopped painting my nails for a couple of years to help it. Nope. Genetics. So I rely on products to help, and I've been for glad to have found these! Probelle is the restorative base nail polish that uses a two-step system to cure, grow and repair nails to a healthier state. The Touch N' Grow original formula cures and strengthens nails while the Touch N' Grow Plus maintains healthy nails with garlic and lime, which have been proven to prevent nails from discoloration and bacteria growth caused by prolonged nail polish wear. Probelle also acts as a durable base coat. I noticed a difference within a couple of days! $14 each for $26 for both.

Beyond the Zone Beach Head Products: Y'all know I love beachy hair, especially this time of year, so I was excited to receive these! First up is Seaside Smooth, an anti-frizz cream best for those with fine hair. The Coastal Cooler is a cooling shine mist. I loved this because it didn't make my hair greasy, like many shine sprays do. The Surf Shake is a traditional salt spray that is great for texturizing hair. I liked this after I heat styled my hair. They can be found at Sally Beauty stores and sell from $7.29-$8.99.

Amarte Wonder Cream--I've been using this grapefruit-extract packed cream to lighten my freckles and so far, I've seen a difference! I'll update after I finish the bottle.
Amarte Aqua Veil--A deeply hydrating formula that incorporates cucumber to optimize skin's ability to absorb and retain moisture. A visible magic-water veil is formed immediately upon application with resultant coolness and softness. This really saved my skin after being at the beach.

Fake Bake Beyond Bronze--On Monday's post, I had the most comments on what was on my legs in the photos for my tan. It was this! This is from their new line of products and I love it. Just be sure to close the cap tightly!

Whish Body Oil in Pomegranate--If you're looking for delicious-smelling body oils, try these! My skin felt soft and had a beautiful shine, thanks to sesame see oil, olive leaf and tea leaf, and pomegranate scent. $28, 6 scents and yes I will be buying the coconut!

Hum Killer Nails & Here Comes the Sun--An innovative vitamin line that is revolutionizing the supplement industry by creating products specifically for beauty and lifestyle. HUM’s products are gluten free, non-GMO, all natural, and I enjoyed trying them out! I want to try out more of their line! Available at select Sephora stores and Sephora.com

Jane Iredale Golden Shimmer--This face and body lotion comes out pink, but leaves a subtle shimmer where applied. It features apple extract to rejuvenate skin and help with moisture.
Jane Iredale Lip Fixation--I've been obsessed with this lip stain and gloss duo. The color was gorgeous and lasted. Just be sure to keep the gloss lid on tight!

Claudio Riaz Instant Lash Mascara--This conditioning mascara lengthens lashes by creating tubes on them. I can't figure out how else to describe it, but I really loved the results.
Claudio Riaz Instant Pout--A creamy, natural color that adds shine to lips. Seen here on natural lips. Very pretty and I like wearing it as a "top coat."

Jane Iredale Powder Me SPF--If you've ever gotten the part in your hair burnt, you'll want this. But seriously, if you're looking for a dry version of sunscreen, you'll love this. SPF 30 and water-resistant for 40 minutes. Really loved keeping this in my bag for a lightweight powder sunscreen.

Doll Face Nail Polish in Vanity Bliss--This metallic peridot polish with golden shimmer is strong-smelling as it dries, but it dries very quickly. I enjoyed the quick drying time, color and the bottle design. $4.99
