My Everyday Makeup Routine

In case you missed this post, I asked for blog feedback, and a couple of you wanted more makeup tutorials--you got it! This is my everyday makeup routine.  I shared this as a guest post last month, but thought you would like seeing it. This is great for daytime looks, natural looking-makeup, and beginners. Plus, I've got something for all budgets.

First, I prime and prep my skin with the Smashbox Pore Minimizer Primer. I like this one because it helps hide pores. Next I apply foundation--my skin is on the drier side--so I love the glow this Giorgio Armani Silk Foundation gives me. Then it's time for concealing my dark circles, and I suggest Bobbi Brown. It's a great corrector and comes in many shades.

Drugstore Options:

  • NYX Pore Filler
  • Covergirl Stay Luminous Foundation
  • Wet N Wild Fergie Come Correct Concealer

For an everyday look, I keep the eye shadow to a minimum. I love this Too Faced Natural Matte Palette because it offers so many looks. I pat the lightest shade (Silk Teddy) on the lid. Then, I sweep some of the shade Strapless into the crease and blend. I smudge a little of the shade Risque under the lower lash line.

Drugstore Options:

  • Sonia Kashuk Eye on Neutral Matte Palette (this one is pricey for drugstore, but I don't own many drugstore matte palettes I like. I would also suggest L'Oreal Nude Palettes)

I then curl lashes, add a Lancome mascara and a Sonia Kashuk liner to my upper lashes. My brows are naturally full so I use Loreal Stylist Brow Plumper to put them in place. I add a little Becca highlighter, a sweep of MAC peach blush, and a peachy gloss from Japonesque.

Drugstore Options:

  • L'Oreal Miss Manga mascara
  • Jordana liner (Sonia Kashuk is at Target and still considered drugstore)
  • Wet N Wild Reserve Your Cabana Highlighter
  • Jordana Blush Peach Blossom
  • NYG Gloss in Napoleon

And if you want to see this effortless look in action from start to finish, then check out my video below:

What's your everyday makeup routine?

Extra Elle:
  • This is my third year of getting invited to NYFW and not going. I like watching the streams of them online instead. Maybe next year! #introvertsuniteseparately
  • After seeing it everyone's blog, I decided to get The Royal We, after Kate said it was $3.99 on Kindle. It was a quick, lovely read!
  • Charlie and I had an al fresco dinner at an Italian restaurant near my house yesterday. He is a "people person", er, dog, and I'm very quiet. I swear he gets recognized everywhere we go.

  8. I gotta go see if that book is still on sale - I've been wanting to read it & for some reason it was on my mind yesterday. I must be a mind reader.

  9. I'm almost through my Smashbox redness-reducing primer - it was great for basic priming, but it didn't really reduce redness. I'll have to try out the pore minimizer next time.

  12. What a pretty every day look. I use L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara most days as well. NYFW isn't really all it's cracked up to be. I've been to a few shows this season and it's really easier to watch online.

  18. Elle, you should really go to NYFW and then share with me in detail everything about it so I can live vicariously through you.

Your skin looks amazing in these pictures. I really need to figure out a new everyday makeup routine. I am really dissatisfied with what I am currently doing.

  20. A nice simple everyday look. Very pretty.

  21. Love the drugstore alternatives. I don't use much during the week, just moisturizer, a little BB or CC cream, eyeshadow and mascara. I try to keep it under 5 minutes, I'm not a morning person!

  22. This is a perfect everyday makeup routine. Thanks for sharing! I'm hoping one day to go to NYFW too. :)

  25. Very pretty and natural! I admit, I often just put on mascara and lipstick, but if I have meetings, then I add un-cover up, powder, pencils and a touch of blusher. :)

P.S. Definitely go to the fashion week! I know it's a bit scary, but pick a couple of shows or events and just do it. Next time it will seem a lot less stressful. I'm still pretty new to all this myself (I mean, the attending thing), but I just close my eyes and dive in. :D

  26. P.P.S. I have the same thing with Oscar, the pup. Every one knows him by name... I go as "Oscar's mum"... When he was ill, everyone was asking about him and his health and recovery!

  27. I love a clean simple look for normal day to day wear. Gorgeous!

  28. I bought the Royal We for $3.99 too, but I haven't read it yet. I'm an introvert too so I totally understand. It's a honor to be invited!! I love the Bobbi Brown corrector as well. Can't wait to watch the video tonight!

  29. Beautiful, natural look! I love that you included drugstore and higher end products! I will have to check out the concealers you mentioned!

  31. As someone who LOVES Wet n' Wild products, I'm shocked I've never heard of that concealer?? I'm still trying to find that perfect yellow toned concealer and having zero luck. Especially finding one that works with my current favorite, UD Naked skin foundation.
I love this look on you. Subtle, yet still looks like you are put together and wearing makeup. I fail at the no makeup makeup look. I literally come out of the bathroom after such attempts to my fiance wondering why it took so long because I still look, well.....
This look is more understated rather than no makeup makeup, which I LOVE! Can't wait to try some of these products out! (:

  34. I need to try that primer! i really need something to minimize my pores.

  35. Love this post, Elle! These basic tutorials are the most helpful for me because I'm not nearly as knowledgable about beauty as fashion. You're crazy for not coming to NYFW! I'm lucky that I happen to live a train ride away. You should come next time so we can meet-up!
