MORE Allure Magazine Best of Beauty: Hits & Misses

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I tried to stay off social media (minus Snapchat--ellesees) and really enjoy the day. I spent mine at my brother's house in a tiny town (pop. 800) out in the country. Minus me getting stung by a yellow jacket, it was a good day. And now I'm writing this from my childhood bedroom, which has been taken over by kid stuff from my nieces and nephews.

I recently shared a post here on the Allure Magazine Best of Beauty Winners, and you all enjoyed it so much that I'm back with a round 2! Find out if these "best of" winners are really worth the hype:

allure magazine best of beauty winners
Top Row:

  • Living Proof Dry Shampoo--Everyone I've gotten to try this has been hooked instantly. And they try to steal my can of it!
  • First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask--I think this is ridiculously over-priced, but it really does work. Wonderful for dry skin.
  • Sally Hansen 18K Cuticle Eraser--I was really disappointed in this one--it's just grit with gold flecks. Didn't do anything for my cuticles.
  • Dove Dry Spray--Great for when you want antiperspirant applied quickly with no white marks on your clothes.
  • Tweezerman Tweezers--My favorite brand of tweezers.
  • MAC 263--While this is a great eyeliner brush, I don't think it's worth $20.
Bottom Row:
  • Benefit Gimme Brow--I love this small wand--my favorite brow wand of any I've tried.
  • Maybelline Master Graphic Liner--This was just too large for me and difficult to use. It's like a large magic marker!
  • Wet N Wild Shine Nail Color in Grasping at Strawberries--This polish is 3-free, in a pretty color, and is only 99 cents. Love it.
  • Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer--While skin is still damp, apply for extra moisture. Don't rinse. You will love this in the winter.
  • CoverGirl The Super Sizer Mascara--Gives great volume and is a wet mascara. I enjoyed it.
  • John Freida Frizz Ease Recovery--I was really disappointed in this one. It didn't deliver me from frizziness. See what I liked instead, here.
Which of these have you tried?

Extra Elle:
  • I had also had Thanksgiving at my Grandmother's house. It was the first without my Daddy there. It was tough--every time I heard the door open, I would think it was gonna be him. But I saw a rainbow yesterday, which cheered me up instantly.

  1. Good to know the John Freida didn't really do much to relieve the frizzes! I want to try that Dove Spray. Happy belated Thanksgiving!

  2. I have to let Super Sizer dry down, like after two months of drying down then I can finally use it. The problem I have with it is it can leave some large clumps on my lashes. :-/

I love the gimme brow and the super sized mascara. The first aid beauty maks sounds nice but they are over priced I agree! I've been hearing a lot about the living proof dry shampoo lately!

  7. Oh I am sorry you got stung, Elle. That sucks. But on a positive note, that rainbow was great. That was your father looking down on you.

Thank you for all of these honest reviews, as usual.

Have a cheerful Thanksgiving weekend hun!

  11. Happy Thanksgiving to you lovely. It sounds like a wonderful day, even if your father wasn't there in person, that rainbow is proof he was there in spirit.

  15. Sorry you got stung! I'm glad the rest of your Thanksgiving was good, though. I haven't tried any of those products. My daughter uses the frizz ease, and she seems to like it. Maybe her hair is a different texture than yours.

  23. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving Elle! I have only tried a couple of these which I didn't think were that great. I would like to try the First Aid Beauty Oatmeal Scrub.

  24. Never tried that Living Proof dry shampoo so might have to check that out and I'm in the market for a new brow mousse so I might have to check out that benefit one. I was disappointed by Dove's spray on deodorant :/ And that CoverGirl Supersizer mascara did nothing for me. Womp womp.

  25. I need new tweezers-totally getting those ones now!

  26. I love tweezerman tweezers, it is all I have owned for years. I liked the CoverGirl The Super Sizer Mascara. It was a decent drug store option. I really want to try the Living Proof dry shampoo that everyone has been raving about! I saw Sephora has a $12 sample size, I might grab that and see if it beats Batiste for me.

  27. I love the Jergens lotion and the CoverGirl mascara!

  28. I love these posts! I'm going to have to try that dry shampoo, and my skin needs that Jergens lotion right now. I'd love to try the brow stuff too, my poor brows usually get neglected!

  29. It's nice to hear your take on all of these products!

  30. What?! My jaw dropped when I saw that Maybelline marker thingy. I HATED that. Not only was it gigantic and hard to use, the formula transferred like crazy. I feel like it never dried. 5 minutes later my liner shouldn't smear when I blink. That stuff was total garbage. I didn't know Wet n wild polish was 3 free! I don't own a single one, looks like I'll have to change that. (; Do you have a color you suggest?
