Monthly Makeup: Autumn Eyes for September

Monthly Makeup: September Autumn Eyes

I wish y'all were here with me as I'm writing this. I'm sitting on my balcony in only my rattiest finest pjs, sipping a Pumpkin Spice Latte (!!!), and enjoying the delightful bite of chill in the air. Autumn in Atlanta is my favorite time of year (and also the name of my next band. Note to self: come up with name for first band). Even though this reprieve from summer will disappear next week, I'm soaking it all in. I'm squinting my eyes extra tight and pretending the leaves are those lovely fall colors, and that's how I came up with this eye tutorial. Even if you don't really wear eyeshadow, this can work for you--just scroll down to the end for my tips. I'm using all drugstore products (cuz I'm cheap!), but sub in your faves to make it work for you! Enjoy! Love, Elle

PRIMER

  • I'm using cream shadow and gel liner, so eyelid primer is a must. I'm using ELF Primer. It's a $1, but I use it because it dries to a powder finish, unlike most primers, which is better for the rest of the products I'm using. It's also great for those with greasy lids and usually can't wear cream shadows.
  • Just dab and pat it in. Done!
BASE
  • Since it's almost autumn (September 23rd!), I wanted to use cream shadows, which I mostly avoid during summer.
  • Apply ELF Copper Cream Shadow all over the lid. I use my finger for easiest application. You can build and make it darker, if you'd like.
CREASE
  • Next, use the ELF Essentials Duo in Butter Pecan,
  • Apply the lighter shade to the inner crease.
  • The darker shade goes in the outer crease. In other words, just half of your crease.
CORNER
  • Use the ELF Mineral Eyeshadow in Wild on the outer corner. It enhances the copper shadow and adds a little shading to the eye.
  • TIP: I put a tissue under my eye to catch all out from the shadow.
LINER
  • What makes this look a little different, and a little more autumnal, is that I use green liner. Green liner looks great on brown and hazel eyes, but it makes my blue eyes bluer, if that makes any sense!
  • Keeping with the cream theme, put ELF Professional Studio Cream Eyeliner in Olive heavy on the upper lid. Maybe do a winged eye, if you know how (tutorial coming soon!)
  • If you have a green liner, use that on the lower lid. Otherwise, gel liner on my lower tends to smudge.
MASCARA
  • Use whatever you'd like, but I used Maybelline Falsies Flared. I wanted volume, and this brought it!
  • If shadow intimidates you (I was intimidated for years), just apply the cream shadow, green gel liner, and mascara.
What autumn eye looks are you looking forward to wearing?
Has fall unofficially arrived where you are? Weekend plans?

  1. I love love LOVE this! Great post! I haven't had a Pumpkin Spice Latte yet...I keep forgetting ... what is wrong with me? I guess something about hot Jacksonville, FL isn't screaming PSL yet to me. I'm going to Canada at the end of the month...so I see fall foliage and PSLs in my future...wait they have Starbucks in Canada right? Oh gosh...googling that now.....sigh of relief...they do...LOL I'm sure it was silly to think they didn't but last year we went to New Hampshire and they only had like 3 in the whole state....THREE!!

I added you to my new blog roll of blogs I follow.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your future PSLs!!!

  17. Because summer's been so warm, I haven't been wearing much makeup, but this is a great neutral look to get back in the swing of things.

  21. Yay for the pumpkin spice latte! Soooo good. I guess this means Starbucks has officially brought it back for the fall, huh?

I really need to get on my game and try these ELF products. I've heard such great reviews about them and yet I haven't purchased anything. They're so cheap, too....I love that.
