How To: Fix Broken Shadows

I'm known in my group of friends as "Google" but unofficially as The Klutzy One. I'll somehow run into a wall, trip and fall, or drop things. Luckily, not all at the same time! So today's post has been an essential for me. And maybe for you, too! If you saw yesterday's post on How to De-pot Shadows, I mentioned that sometimes the shadows could break as you remove them from their containers. Don't worry--this is easy to fix and will save you money! Enjoy!

Don't throw away those broken shadows!

  • Place 2-4 drops of rubbing alcohol into your broken shadow. A medicine dropper makes it easier to do this, but it's not essential. A spray bottle with alcohol will work too,
  • Using a toothpick, gently stir and mix the shadow into its container, to form it similarly as it was originally. Let dry 8 hours, but I leave it overnight. The appearance will look different, as it is no longer a pressed shadow, but it will look and work exactly the same.

  • You can also take the shadow out, clean the original container, add alcohol and mix in shadows in another container, and then pour it back into the original container.
  • This isn't required, but to help it look more like it was originally, and to set it, I like placing a little wax paper, tissue, or paper towel on top of the newly-mixed shadow. Then, I'll press on top of the paper to help form it back into the original shape. Sometimes I'll then add a little weight, like a few coins.
  • This works for most blushes, bronzers, powders and highlighters, too!

  1. I've always heard this, but have yet to try it. Mostly because shadows I break tend to SHATTER. Not good.
