12 Months of Resolutions: January's Results + February's Challenge

Something I've done for the past couple of years is to do a different resolution each month. I do this in the hopes that the resolution will stick, since it takes generally 21 days to form a new habit.

For January, I gave up shopping for an entire month!

How did I do?
I nailed it!! I've done this challenge many times before,  but this time I did it during those amazing post-holiday sales. Sales and enticement, especially from bloggers, were everywhere! I swear everyday I saw some great post full of sales calling my name. But I resisted. It helped having little treats like Birchbox and MyGlam to help ease it.

Would I do it again?
Yes! I'd like to extend it to twice a year, or at least two consecutive months.

Bonus: I also had a mini-resolution to listen to new-to-me music every day. I did it. Thirty-one new bands gave me plenty to take in.You all gave excellent selections! Thank you. :)

For February, I'm giving up Diet Coke!
So far, so good! Wish me luck!

What is something you'd like to change about yourself?

  3. Giving up shopping for a whole month, I doubt I could do it. Giving up on the coke would be a lot easier for me since I'm not a big soda drinker, but don't you dare take away my coffee;)

  9. Hooray Elle! I just don't think I could give up shopping, but you did it! :)

I also have stopped drinking Diet Coke\any carbonated soft drinks. I've stopped for several months now and never looked back! :)

I am praying for your friend you requested me to pray for. Do you mind telling me her first name? She is on my daily personal prayer list and you are too :)

  17. Good luck with your resolution this month Elle. I don't drink a lot of soda but I crave it all the time so I bet its hard to give it up for a month when you drink it regularly !

  19. It takes a lot of will power to give up shopping! But I know how you feel...I'm doing a year abroad in France and when I was saving to come here I didn't spend anything more than money for groceries for an entire six months. It was slightly torturous but its payed off!

  20. Good for you! I've been packing for the move lately and just discovered how much stuff I have. I think my focus will be on simplifying my life and paying attention to what really counts and what I really need

  24. You have way more will power than me! I am not a huge shopper where I drop loads of money every week but it is so hard for me not to buy all the piddly little stuff. Then you move onto Diet Coke which is a MAJOR obsession of mine!! Good luck.

  25. Yay for you! Hard to give up Diet Coke...but you can do it!

  26. I like your take on resolutions. It seems so much less daunting to commit to a month rather than a whole year. Then you can allow yourself to extend the resolution as you wish!

  27. Brava! I took some time off after finishing up my holiday shopping, but I couldn't resist a little Jcrew dress!

  28. I would give up eating rice, I know it seems so easy. But every day I eat rice! It's a challenge to think of a meal without it.

  29. You totally rock and inspire me! I was doing well on my resolutions until recently. Fallen off the wagon a bit but not totally. Now it's just time to get back on. And I'm actually looking forward to it. :)

  30. I need to re-evaluate on my goals for the year! I'm proud of your no shopping! I rocked it too :) I'm doing it once a quarter. I think it's going to make a huge difference!

  31. I seriously love that idea! A new resolution a month! I have heard that it takes three weeks for a new habit to stick, and this is the perfect way to keep improving yourself w/o being overwhelmed by the idea of giving up something for a whole year!
    Good luck!

  37. Good job girly! I assume it was no shopping just for extras, not necessities? I think I need to do something like this, my spending is getting a bit ridiculous.

  39. Fantastic job! I did this for a couple of months and found that I actually felt more in control and mindful when I started shopping again. Those sales are so tempting but way to stick to it! One of my goals this Spring is to ditch the morning Diet Coke, I'm not doing so well on that one.
