Monthly Makeup: July Eyes

Monthly Makeup: July's Summer Shimmer

If you read my Beach Week series, you noticed I touched on how to create Summer Shimmer, no matter age or makeup comfort level. Due to popular demand, I thought I give you a tutorial on how I did it.

  • Start with a primer. I used ELF Eyelid Primer. Another option is Urban Decay Primer in Sin.
  • I used Urban Decay Naked Palette in Half-Baked all over my lid. This stuff is super shimmery, so I suggest a tissue under your eye to catch falling glitter.
  • Next, I blended in Smog along my outer half of my eye.
  • I put Darkhorse in my crease. Blend!
  • I applied the shade Virgin under my eyebrow and just in the corners of my eyes to highlight.
  • Finish with brown eyeliner, curled lashes, and mascara.
  • If you don’t have the UD palette, I highly recommend the Maybelline Sunlit Bronze Eye Shadow palette, which is really similar.
Are you into shimmer? What eye look are you rocking lately?
The following is not a poem.
I learned it's really hard to photograph your eye without a good camera.
This looked so much better in person...I swear.
But in my quest to be authentic,
I forgot liner before taking this pic.
And I bet you're asking, so I'll tell you,
Yes, I'm available to take pics for weddings. Holla.

  2. That's a beautiful look. I need to be more experimentative with my make up.

  3. I love those colors. I ended up giving my naked palette to my mom though because even though almost every color was gorgeous I just couldn't get past the fall out. I would love a naked matte palette. That would be amazing.

  5. Your "this is not a poem" caption literally made me laugh out loud. And I can empathize! My photography skillz are seriously lacking.

I love a shimmery neutral eye too! It's such an easy way to look polished and put together. I like to use Too Faced's Neutral Eye palette. Lovely tutorial!

What do you think of the other shades in the UD Naked palette?

  6. I love putting shimmer on my eyes! I'm going to give this look a try for sure--I love trying new makeup looks but I always need a little nudging (like this great step-by-step!).

  7. I've heard that Dior has been hitting a home run with their mascara's, but I really love the Japanese Fiber Wig mascaras (most Japanese women's lashes aren't full enough so they had fiber to the mascara) but for those who do have them, the volume is amazing. Have you tried it before?
