So y'all, today is one of those days where I feel like the week is dragging by, and then I look at the calendar and realize we are halfway through June. Slow down, 2017!

And just what does that have to do with liquid lipstick? Well, today I'm comparing the new Covergirl Melting Pout Liquid Lipstick vs. Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick. In my testing of those two products, I decided to try the former against some of my other liquid lipsticks, like Maybelline Color Jolt. I realized it was almost exactly a year ago that I tested that one! It doesn't seem like a year at all! And it makes me wonder, is Covergirl too late to get on the liquid lipstick train? L'Oreal released their version this past fall. Regardless, when I saw the new Covergirl Melting Pout last month, I had to pick it up and test it, since it reminded me of the Too Faced version--even the promos say it's comparable to a $20 liquid lipstick. But is it a dupe? Keep reading to find out.

Covergirl Melting Pout

What they say: "Stop the world and melt with COVERGIRL liquid lipstick! This all-new high-impact, opaque lip color is rich, creamy and compares to a $20 liquid lipstick. The soft touch precision applicator is cushiony and comfortable so lip color glides on smooth delivering a satin finish that's not sticky or tacky."

I haven't really heard anything about these, and minus the day I purchased mine last month, I haven't seen them in any more stores. No displays, nothing!  But let's talk about the product--it has the applicator similar to Too Faced.

I felt like the packaging does not represent the color inside--I picked up 105 since most of the colors don't really appeal to me. Wearing it, it really looks just like my lips already.

It isn't as glossy as Too Faced or others that I've tried--those apply glossy and then dry down to a demi-matte finish. This seems to skip the glossy step and is already demi-matte. But it is not drying by any means. It's a nice feel on the lips.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick

What they say: "Get the staying power of a stain, the intense color of a liquid lipstick and the high shine of a gloss in one long-wear formula. Using exclusive technology to keep cauldrons of molten lipsticks liquid and creamy, Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick comfortably coats lips in bursts of intense, high-impact, super rich, saturated color that lasts for hours."

Something interesting here--the Maybelline Color Jolt is .21 ounces and the Melting Pout is .24--look at the size difference in packaging! Too Faced is .4 oz.

Is it a dupe? Not really. I like the fact that it is unscented, but I prefer the finish (I like the gloss and the demi-matte) and staying power of Too Faced. However, it isn't a bad deal for $7.99, I just wish the shade range was better, since blue and purple lipsticks aren't my thing, but that's personal preference. If you have Color Jolt or L'Oreal Lip Paints already, there's no need to run out and get this. I did like it though!

Have you tried the Melting Pout liquid lipsticks yet?

  1. Thanks for comparing these! I haven't tried any of them so I need to get to it!

  2. I haven't tried any of these. The shade you chose is the one I would get too! The others are too bright.

  3. I have to admit being intrigued a bit by the blue shade...reminds me of lip colours I'd wear in high school!

  4. I too have not tried any of them. Thanks for the review on them. I am enjoying the matte lip gloss from NYX right now. It works really well and does not dry out your lips and I love the price of them.
Hope you enjoy your day and weekend.

  5. I haven't tried any of these out, but it's good to know that you liked them.

  6. I sort of had a feeling that it wasn't going to be as good as Too Faced. I saw it at Target last week and i thought to myself...when did this come out I dont remember seeing these before??? I think I will stick with my Too Faced one! Thanks for sharing!

  7. I can't imagine myself wanting to try out a purple or blue lipstick either!

  8. Melting Pout bleeds like crazy on me! :-(

  9. The color looks nice, it's too bad they don't stay!

  10. It's nice to hear that this is unscented but the finish doesn't sound that appealing to me. The Too Faced definitely sounds better!

  11. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these. I think I'll pass since its not an amazing product, just ok.

  12. The melting pout is such a cute name! I prefer how that color looks on you and the shinier texture. Never tried either lip product before but thanks to you, I'm always finding new makeup to try based on your reviews.

  13. I've tried the Too Faced one and it's nice, I just got a bad color for me so I don't wear it much. The Cover Girl one sounds interesting, but you are right, I wish there were more colors.

  14. I almost picked this up earlier this week, but I'm glad I passed. I love the Too Faced ones, but wasn't a fan of the Color Jolts. Thanks for saving me some money!

  15. Great review Elle, like always you killed it :)

  16. This lipstick looks awesome,I want to try it ❤ Great review !

  17. You know...I think this is the first time I've heard of this CG Melting Pot, Elle! The colour does look great on you, but thanks for the heads up that this is not a TF dupe.:)
    Have a lovely Friday.
PS Yes! Can u believe it's the middle of 2017 already?!?!? Ack!

  18. I really like the ones that stay on through out the day!! I usually go for the brighter colors, but then again I need the pale ones like this to cover them up when I don't like them...ha ha!

  19. I haven't seen these in stores! The color is pretty! I still haven't tried the too faced ones before, or the maybelline!

  20. They look very close for real. I'm actually wearing my Too Faced today, what a coincidence.

  21. Oh very cute colors I haven´t tried these yet

  22. The Too Faced Melted lipsticks have been on my wish list to try for so long but I have just never gotten round to it. If I had seen the Cover Girl verison when I was in LA I would have picked it up but I don't remember seeing it either. At least I didn't miss out on anything amazing and I will have to pick up to Too Faced one soon instead :) x

  23. The finish of these lipsticks is quite fascinating. I have added them in my beauty wishlist.

  24. Great review, thank you! I haven't tried any of these colors but they all look really nice and natural.

  25. The first shade looks so perfect! looking great on you!
Thanks for review, as detailed as always, you're doing such a great job Elle!

  26. I think I like the Too Faced better, but it's nice to find cheaper options :)

  27. Thanks for your honest opinion Elle! I haven't seen these in stores yet.

  28. This is actually my first time hearing of these! I agree, there does need to be a wider shade range. I think for $7.99 though, they're good enough for me, haha!

  29. How interesting!! What a great review and pictures!! Thanks for sharing!

  30. I have to tell you, I tried the Melted line before and I wasn't a huge fan! Don't know what it was but it didn't work for me , unfortunately! I've recently been into LIpsense product- it's amazing!

  31. Love your honest opinion! I guess at that price point, could defo be an option! Especially since I seem to always lose my lippies. Sigh.
