Dupe? Covergirl Contour Palette VS. MUFE Pro-Sculpting Palette

Contour palettes are still a huge draw in the makeup industry, and they've even hit the drugstore arena (see a post on that here). Most of the palettes are powder, so when this cream Covergirl Tru Blend Contour Palette was recently released, it had to be mine. In fact, I shared in on my Snapchat last week. Within seconds, I was asked via Snapchat (ellesees) if it was a dupe for the super pricey cream palette from MUFE.

Covergirl TruBlend Contour Palette
  • $11.99
  • ULTA, online, drugstores, box stores
  • Comes in 2 shades: light (pictured) and medium
  • Each palette has cream highlight (shimmer), contour, and bronze
  • Designed by celeb makeup artist Pat McGrath
Here are swatches. I went with the light version since medium is usually too muddy on me. The contour is a nice cool-toned brown.

On your left is with the product swatched on my face. On your right, is after 10 hours of wear. I am using soft box lights so you can see it on my skin.

Behind the scenes: This was taken in the morning and at night after a full day of work. As most of you know, I'm a nanny. One of the girls I take care of is 6. She wrote a play and I was a potato. I only got 1 speaking line! ;) That's why I wearing a brown tee shirt and look so tired.

Makeup Forever Pro-Sculpting Face Palette
  • $45
  • Sephora, department stores, online
  • Comes in 4 shades: light (pictured), medium, tan, dark
  • Each palette has highlight, contour, shimmer, and blush
As you can see in the swatches, the shades are very pigmented and easily visible.

On your left is the palette swatched on my skin. On the right, after 10 hours of wear.

  • Overall, there is no way this a dupe. The Covergirl is barely seen on skin.
  • Both have very creamy textures and are similar in that way. If you tried the NYX cream contour/highlight palette, you will remember how dry that one is compared to this.
  • If you have dry skin and want a very natural-looking c&h, try Covergirl.
  • If you have $45, dry skin and want a cream c&h (and blush), try MUFE.

Extra Elle:

  • Charlie and I headed to Lake Lanier this past Saturday for a bit. I can't believe this was my 2nd time going.
  • I really love these palettes from Pur Minerals, if you're looking for a nice luxury version.
  • Into the stick version of C&H? Here are two from Hard Candy and NYX to check out.
  • Here are more Drugstore c&h palettes

  1. The MUFE definitely stands out as the better one to try. That is so cute that you were a potato in the play!

  2. I haven't hopped on the face palette train yet but I am a fan of MUFE so I would certainly consider that one if I decide to pull the trigger. Other than mascara, eye liner and a few lip products...Cover Girl isn't my favorite drug store brand.

  3. That's too bad it's not a dupe because it's a huge price difference! The MUFE definitely stands out a lot more than the Covergirl. I've been so interested in trying MUFE but haven't wanted to pay the price!

  5. Awesome review! I'm all about saving money and getting the dupe, but only if it truly is similar. In this case, it's totally worth the splurge for MUFE <3

  6. Yup, definitely not even close! Sad because the price point on the CG one is perfect but the MUFE is noticeably different! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  8. MUFE is fine for me as long as it will not give any allergic flares :)

  10. Hmm, not even close in my opinion. I have the MUFE one and I use it almost everyday.

  11. I'm a huge cover girl fan but I recently found the make up forever mascara and now I want to try this to as it does look much more pronounced and beautiful.

  12. No comparison! I use a different MUFE one with only two colors and love. Thanks again for a thorough review!

  15. I haven't tried either of theres. That's a shame the covergirl one can't be seen on the skin much! I haven't played much with cream products, but the MUFE one looks nice!

  16. Definitely not a dupe, and overall I kind of expected better from cover girl. I can't believe you only got one line in the play! haha you're a great nanny! :)

  17. Wow! Huge difference! Sometimes it's worth the money to get better quality! The play thing cracks me up! You are such a wonderful nanny to those girls! They are lucky to have you!

  18. I agree, the Cover Girl is barley visible and MUFE is much more pigmented. Thanks for comparing these two!

  19. I was so hoping it was going to be a dupe. But man, you can hardly see any of the pigmentation in the Cover Girl. Boo!

  21. There's a big difference! The Cover Girl isn't very pigmented at all. I always appreciate these dupe posts!

  22. These posts are always my fave Elle! I'm not a contouring kind of gal (way too complicated for me) but if I wanted to get into it I'd try the CG because it's so sheer on the skin. Clearly the MUFE is better quality, but I'd probably apply it wrong and look scary :)

  23. I haven't got in to the whole contouring thing yet. If i do I will have to keep these palette in mind.

  24. Hmm the CoverGirl is barely visible on your skin. Definitely not a dupe!

  25. Yeah unfortunately you can't even see the Covergirl one. Not good. The other one looks much, much better!

  26. I haven't tried a contour palette before, but I think that I'd probably just stick with the MUFE one if I want to try one. It's unfortunate that the Covergirl one barely even showed up!

  27. Oh wow! Such a big difference in regards to the pigmentation, eh? Thanks for this comparison, Elle:) I've been really loving the Kevyn Aucoin palette for awhile now, but it's always good to know what out's there:D

  28. Hmmmmm I think I'll save for the mufe since I swear by their foundation and other cream products. The CG looks nice enough and seems like a good alternative but ultimately I believe you get what you pay for and the higher end definitely shows up more on the skin!

  29. It's obvious that MUFE is way more pigmented. Great post.

Can you come over and teach me how to do all this? I'm totally useless!!

  32. Dang I hate dupe fails! I still need to try contouring!

  33. Aww, I love that you were a potato in the play! You are such a good sport! :)

  34. You can tell the MUFE one is more pigmented! Too bad the Covergirl palette isn't a dupe! Great post Elle!

  35. I totally didn't know that Pat McGrath designed the CoverGirl palette. The contour shade looks nice but the highlight and bronzer are practically invisible. When I first started c&h I used cream products, but now I stick with powder. It's just easier but the MUFE looks amazing if you prefer creams.
