That has nothing to do with this post. I'm just curious.
Ok, it sorta has a little to do with this post. Let's talk about foundation.
Have you ever applied foundation just to have it roll right off your face? Or peel off as you're applying it?
Frustrating right?
Today I've got some tips that will help prevent that!
And if you've never experienced this, just keep this post in your back pocket.
Here's why your foundation could be rolling off:
1-Moisturizer/serum/primer/etc is too thick or you applied too much
2-Moisturizer/serum/etc hasn't had a chance to settle in--give it at least 5 minutes before applying foundation
3-If you use a silicone-based primer (like Smashbox) and a water-based foundation (like Too Faced's Born This Way), they never mix and will roll off.
TIP: To make foundation apply even smoother, try dermaplaning.
What's your favorite foundation?
Extra Elle:
- I think I've decided what to dress up as for Halloween! Did you see the preview of Charlie's costume? It's in my Favorites video!
- Thank you so, so much for your sweet words on this post.
Really interesting!! Havent had this happen to me yet so like you said I'll keep it in my back pocket!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your insight on this. Haven't had any issues but I'm sure someday I will. Have a great day Elle! :)

Great advice Elle. I have noticed that certain sunscreens applied before foundation will cause this on me. I listen to the morning news if I'm lucky and break up fights between my kiddos when I'm not.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about a silicon based primer mixing with a water based foundation. You just made my life so much easier!

Thanks for the great tips! I've definitely noticed a difference when I wait for my primer to settle in before applying foundation!
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought! Thanks so much for sharing this!

Thats never happened to me, I'll cross my fingers that it doesnt. Usually in the morning when I'm getting ready I dont listen to music or anything. I'm usually in a rush and dont have time for anything to distract me!
ReplyDeleterolling off huh? who knew?! i don't wear it but if i did, i'd be bookmarking this post! also, i drink coffee while i put my makeup on (my eyeliner and mascara ha). it's a routine for sure!

I've never had any of these problems but it's good to know what I can do to fix it if I ever do! I did have the problem of too much primer when I first started using it but it just made my makeup feel heavy (if that makes sense lol) <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I think letting my moisturizer/sunscreen set first is the biggest problem I had before and made a big difference! My routine during the week is applying as quickly as possible! I only have about 30 min to get ready (with shower) so I'm always applying as fast as I can!
ReplyDeleteI always apply lots of moisturizer because I'm so dry!! Always have to wait a while for it to settle in! I watch YouTube videos while getting ready or listen to music!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis has never happened to me but now I know what to do if it does! I always listen to music when I'm getting ready!

Doused In Pink
I didnt know that could even happen!
ReplyDeleteI use the 24 hour Maybelline foundation & it works really well for me.
My foundation always rolls off when I skip primer. BUT I am in the market for a new foundation, and I'm using a silicone primer, so I'll keep your tips in mind when shopping. Also, my routine is really just getting ready as fast as I can. No fun to it!

Sometimes, I get in a hurry in the mornings and apply my foundation before my moisturizer sets in. I hate when this happens!
ReplyDeleteNormally, I will listen to a podcast or turn Netflix on my phone while I get ready!
Wow! I never knew this! It hasn't happened to me yet, but if it does, now I will know! Thanks for sharing, Elle!

A Blonde's Moment
This happened to me when I used silicone based primers before. Then I figured out my skin did agree with silicone anyways so problems solved lol!! Right now my favorite foundation is the Kat Von d one, and I wish I had a good routine for getting ready. I'm always in such a hurry haha!
ReplyDeleteI have read a few bloggers having issues with foundation rolling off but I personally never experience anything like that. On the other hand, I also rarely use primer because I don't find it as a necessity. Definitely a good tip to remember though, thanks, Elle! I don't have a get ready routine other than wash my face and try to look human. LOL!

That's interesting! I seem to be having troubles with my Bare Minerals bare skin serum foundation and I think it might be because I apply it right after moisturizer.
ReplyDeleteI have never had this issue before. Thank for the info on the smashbox premier. That's what I have been using now for a month.

I've never had this issue, actually! I love the Lorac primer, and just finished up one by Two Faced so now I'm on the market for something else. Good to know that I should consider my foundation when choosing a primer!

so interesting post..thanks for sharing

This is interesting. I've never had this issue but these are so good tips to avoid it!
ReplyDeleteI watch Youtube and drink coffee! haha. Yes yes yes this has happened to me many times! I just had to play around with different consistencies and formulas until I found "the one." A foundation that has completely knocked my socks off is the Boots No7 Beautifully Matte foundation. I'm working on getting it to last longer, but man oh man does this stuff apply like butter!
ReplyDeleteI haven't really had this happen to me before. I will say that my glasses always mess my foundation up on my nose and my sunglasses that are all big mess up my upper cheeks. So annoying! I listen to music while doing my make up in the morning. Sometimes it turns in to a little dance party or concert depending on the mood I am in. Cant wait tot see your halloween costume! Does it match Charlies at all?
ReplyDeleteI had this issue once awhile back, it was due to my moisturizer. Great tips Elle!
ReplyDeleteI have had this happen before in the past, but not with my current products. I always wondered why! I always love your Extra Elle's!

I haven't had this problem, at least not recently, but I'll keep these tips in mind. I always drink coffee when I'm putting makeup on and doing my hair in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteYes I have had an issue with flaking and I was able to stop it by mixing a few drops of serum with my CC cream rather than apply it underneath. I usually do this during winter cause my skin needs a little extra moisture.
ReplyDeleteRowena @ rolala loves
My morning beauty routine is mostly nervous glancing at the clock. Since I wear minimal make up I use CC Cream in place of foundation. When in need of proper makeup I will use makeup primer first than concealer and CC Cream. I have found a line of products that work for me and rolling off is not a problem, as they are designed to work well together. That was not always the case and I now see why.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. Very informative.
These are great reminders. I have to make myself wait after I apply moisturizer before applying foundation. Definitely have to wait!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips!

Great tip about not mixing silicone primers and water based foundations! I never thought about that even though it is just chemistry. Thanks Elle!
ReplyDeleteHonestly I don't really have a beauty routine. Some days I don't even bother with makeup. I basically just put on eyeliner and call it a day.
ReplyDeleteI've never had this happen before! Makes sense about the silicone and water though. I like to listen to podcasts or music while I'm getting ready.
ReplyDeleteI love to listen to music while I get ready. I usually sing along, too! I've never had that happen with foundation but I'm trying to find a new product to use. I've been using the Stila stay-all-day foundation. I love the smell of it! But it's more of a summer foundation.

You have so much wisdom! I just LOVE it! Thanks for sharing! I am still trying to find a foundation that I like!
ReplyDeleteI need to try foundation, I need something light. I find when I tried it once when I was younger it was very heavy and made me look fake. I haven't tried it since...haha!

I just started using foundation instead of powder so found this helpful.
ReplyDeleteI had NO IDEA that was even a thing--but will definitely keep this post in mind if I ever experience it--crazy!
ReplyDeleteFortunately, I've never had a problem with this, but I will definitely remember those tips!
ReplyDeleteI switch it up a lot but loving TruMatch lately.
