5 Things That Make Me Happy: Beauty & Beyond

We made it to Friday! Do you have any fun plans or are you relaxing? I have tons of stuff to get done (always) but plan on sneaking in a movie at some point. I don't think I've been to the movies since January or February. What should I see?

So I had a hard week this week emotionally, and felt it was time to do another 5 Things That Make Me Happy.

Me, my Daddy, and my sister a few years ago. I found this pic in his room.

As of this week, it's been 1 month since my dad passed away. I know you're thinking, well how is that something that's happy? You're right, but what made me happy was making the decision to be vulnerable and share with you what that past month has been like. I'm a private person and so many think of grief as a private thing. I wanted to show that you aren't alone. Your words, support, and kindness on this post mean the world to me. I'm finding peace with the fact that he is no longer in pain and is in Heaven. And this pic cracks me up because he was never dressed up (this was at Christmas). He was a Hawaiian shirt kinda guy--he lived in FL for many years and loved the water. On his birthday next month, there will be a post on him.

Charlie turned 5! Would you LOOK AT THIS FACE? Hold on, I need to go hug him after seeing this pic. People who don't like dogs or animals fall in love with him. Even other dogs--he gets them to play. I've had so many dog owners tear up saying they haven't seen their dog play like that in years, but Charlie brings out the pup in them, or that their dog doesn't like other dogs but loves Charlie. He's my boy!

This combo: It's spring, so I was feeling pink nude lips (Royal Ball by Cinderella for Mac) and one of my all-time faves Bikini so Teenie by Essie. This bottle is the old packaging--I hope they still make this!

My DIY Crayon Ombre Candle--I've made so many of these lately, but the pink ones are my fave. See the tutorial here.

I got my brows done!
I got my brows sugared! And y'all it was time. I usually am on it with these sort of things but life lately...anyway! When I got the chance to check out Sweet Peach Wax & Sugaring Studio, I had to check it out. I get invited to check out spas and things and you don't see them mentioned by me because I am so picky. But I love this place! It's adorable, clean, with a friendly and knowledgable staff. I had Rachelle, who was awesome. Sugaring is a less painful form of waxing. It only grabs the hair and not the skin. I felt nothing, y'all. They do waxing, spray tanning, facials, and more in addition to the sugaring. If you're in Atlanta, check out Sweet Peach!

So what made you happy this week?

  5. Your dad was so handsome Elle ! And I am sure he was quite proud of you. I am glad you are finding things that make you happy. Your brows look fabulous too!! My daughter is in full swing dance competition mode - watching her dance makes me so happy. And my dog is finally recovering from two terrible surgeries. 6. That was a very beautiful picture of you and your dad, and I think you should put it in a place you can see it, like sending a kiss and good thoughts when you see it! He had really very kind eyes, I am sure he was amazing, but he lives through his kids - I know it sounds cliche, but it's true, life doesn't vanish! As I said, I am sorry I couldn't read the post, because I knew it would shake me in a way that I fought so much to achieve the point I am now... it's 4 years and I still can't see his pics in a nice way. It hurts me so much. Anyway, I love the blue nail polish, I have worn one for the first time last week! I love Charlie, too, be very sure of it - he is definitely lovely and I bet he is a high spirit, making the other dogs willing to play with him! I never heard of that, so sweet!

  9. That picture of Charlie though...I die! He is just precious! Also pertinent...I must check out sugaring - I want to get my brows done, but the whole idea of regular waxing freaks me out {my pain tolerance is literally in negative digits}.

  19. There's something oh so beautiful about being able to open up and talk about your feelings with total strangers. I think being vulnerable in these sort of cases plays in your favor. Please stay strong and continue to inspire. (: Have a lovely weekend Elle.

    oh, and p.s. Essie does still make Bikini so Teenie, but Sally Hansen has a VERY close dupe called Sugar Fix. It's part of their gel manicure line and is the most gorgeous periwinkle shade. (;

  20. Just look at Charlie... so damn cute I tell ya. Definitely made me smile. And I just love the photo of you and your dad. And as my grandmother would say, it's okay to be vulnerable, as long as its to the right people. They have to earn the right to know you. Beautiful post.

Happy birthday to sweet Charlie! I've never heard of brow sugaring, but would love to give it a try. I get my brows threaded, and although it's quick, I always find it to be painful.

  30. Your puppy is so cute! I love coming home to my dog because no matter what kind of day I've had, as soon as I see him, everything is OK in the world. I literally don't know how people live without a dog. Also, I'm super jealous you scored that lipstick. I tried to get something from the Cinderella collection the morning after it launched and everything was sold out. I was so sad. Have a great weekend!

  42. It's healthy to share our grief and be reminded that we have friends who love us. You certainly do. Your doggy looks so cute right now. Thanks for telling me about sugaring; I've never even heard the word used that way before.

  43. Charlie's face....OMG he is the cutest. He would melt me in two seconds. Literally, every time I look at my dogs I say to my husband "aww, they're so cute" and then they get whatever they want. They basically own me and my husband haha
I'm a crazy dog mom, and I'm okay with that.
Also, your eyebrows look amazing! I'd never heard of "sugaring" until you mentioned it just now! Sounds pretty cool!
Hope you have a lovely weekend :-)

  47. Thank you for sharing that wonderful picture of you and your father. Grief is personal and private but sometimes sharing makes the pain just a teeny bit easier. We are all here for you lady!

  50. I can't wait to read more about your dad :) And Charlie...how could that sweet little face not make you happy?! I've never heard of sugaring before but it sounds neat! I wish we had more places like that in SC!

And I just have to let you know, I tried curling my hair like you did, going in different directions, and it works perfectly! I've struggled to find a way that doesn't look too put together and this it! So glad you shared it!
