Elle Sees' Winter Hair Routine

Unlike my mom & beautiful sisters, I don't have silk, curly hair. Mine's wavy, dry, and coarse, and I've learned to embrace it. Since my hair is especially dry in winter and summer, I've learned what products are best and how to control it. Below I've listed products that I've personally tried and that are for any budget. I hope they work for you!

  • I try to wash my hair weekly, if at all possible, since my hair is so dry.
  • I take a few days off from heat styling when I can. Since my hair holds curl well, this is easy. The more rest for my hair, the better.
  • I skip regular conditioner and use a deep conditioner during winter. I leave it on for about 5 minutes before rinsing out. Aussie's 3 Min Miracle smells and works great. For straight hair, HerCut is wonderful. Since my hair is wavy, I love Ouidad's products too.
  • A couple of times a month I love to soak my hair in a hair masque. Elle's tip: Put the masque in your hair & wear an old hat while you run errands, exercise, etc. Check out THIS list of the best masques out there.
  • Since my hair is so dry, a leave-in conditioner is a must during these drying winter months. All of these work great and fit any budget. They work as a detangler too.
How does your hair survive the winter months?
PS--LOVE WEEK is coming soon. Is there anything you'd like to see featured?

  2. Great tips!! My hair tends to fall on the oily side, so I don't moisturize as often as I should :o/

  3. I thought I was being good by only washing my hair every other day... I'm definitely impressed by once a week! But I have fine hair so that probably makes a big difference.

I've been trying to deep condition my hair... if I know I'm showering the next day, I sometimes leave the hair masque on over night.

  10. Isn't it crazy how different people's hair can be? I have to wash my hair daily or it looks disgustingly greasy! How I wish I could only wash it once a week!!!

  11. Me neither, I'm not blessed with bouncy, beautiful hair, and I wash mine everyday, because I work out everyday, so I sweat.. I sorta need to, but I use Pax Ollie... OHH gosh I should send you some!

  12. I wash my hair every three or four days. I have really fine hair, so the oils tend to penetrate and keep my hair pretty hydrated. I condition whenever I wash my hair, with Dove Hydrating and Relaxing conditioner. But if it's really parched, I use Giovanni Organics styling serum. Sometimes I even put really hydrating hand lotion on the tips if they're egregiously dry, but other than that, I don't really rely on winter or summer hair care, since my hair doesn't really dry up normally.

Or if it does, I just don't notice.

    LOL!

I'm hosting an Apothica.com/SkincareRX.com giftcard giveaway on my blog! Stop by some time!
