DIY: Christmas Corsages

Maybe it's my love of Mad Men (see my party here) or watching my Grandmother's old 8mm movies, but I just love the early 60s. A tradition that was common in the 1950s and 60s was that of the Christmas corsage. These were worn at Christmas parties or by Mother on Christmas Day (when everyone was dressed up). It was just a little something extra to brighten the day. And it's a tradition I'd like to bring back, so I decided to make my own.

First, I did a little research to see what they actually looked like and used vintage corsages as my inspiration:
I noticed that there was always a flower, something decorative, and something glittery. Using those observations, I hit up the local craft store for materials as well as an old wreath I had. I used floral tape & scissors to complete the project. A glue gun is also helpful to glue a pin to the back of the corsage.
I simply cut and arranged my pieces and then wrapped floral tape around them to secure. I then glued a safety pin (but a pin from an old brooch would be better) to the back. A straight pin can be used to attach (like you would for a live floral corsage/boutonniere) also.
The finished product--I liked how it turned out. Total cost: 35 cents. Time: 5 minutes Level: Easy

Have you ever heard of this tradition?
PS--My GIVEAWAY ends on Christmas Day. Have you entered?
