Buy This, Skip That: Makeup and More

Okay, how to start off this post? Today makes two years ago that my Daddy passed away. Some of you might remember my posts on it. I was in complete shock, and I still think I am. I tell you this to keep me in your thoughts today.

But I don't want to dwell on this, and instead I want to talk about all things beauty, which always makes me happy. Specifically, I wanted to go through my beauty empties. I love these kinds of posts because these are super duper thorough reviews.

I do empties a little bit differently. My list is HUGE, so I'm sharing just a few items from it. I've found that anything over 10 and people just scroll down without reading. I also don't take pics of the original, because while that's real life, makeup finger prints and shower crud just aren't appetizing. But that's just me.

Here's what to buy and what to skip (going sort of clockwise-ish):

Better Than Sex Mascara
--Let it be known, that I love drugstore mascaras something fierce, but sometimes I love a good pricey one too. And this one is excellent. It will be a while before I buy this one again (so many mascaras, so little time), but I will get it again one day.

Simple Cleansing Wipes
--I shared this brand years ago on here when they first started to be a hit in the States. I like these wipes, but they aren't a fave. I think they came in a blogger pr package.

Venus Travel Razor
--I'm pretty sure I was sent this a while ago, but I finally used it up. I loved these and have purchased more. I have another one that has shaving gel inside of it that I'll share next time.

Olay Body Wash
--What more can I say? I liked it. I purchased a different scent that I like better, but this one was good. I love Olay products and have for years.

Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream
--I used this super thick cream as a facial moisturizer. I like the results, but don't care for anything rose scented. I know, I know. I wouldn't repurchase because of that, but it's good overall.

Yes, I'm putting the same pic again so you don't have to scroll back up. ;)

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
--Y'all, I swear I don't wear expensive mascaras all the time. Ignore Exhibits A and B of this post. ;) I really love the length on this mascara. It will be another one that I will repurchase at some point, but not any time soon.

Crest Whitestripes Supreme Whitening
--Y'all know I LOVE ME SOME WHITE TEETH. I'm kind of obsessed with having the whitest teeth in all the land. I found these at Amazon, and it was love at first strip. They make my teeth a little sensitive, but beauty is pain. I sound crazy. Moving on...

Heimish All Clean Balm
--Just in case you missed my other 3 posts about it, I am a cleansing balm fanatic!! This one was affordable and had lovely packaging. And it worked, did I mention that? I'd buy it again, but probably wouldn't because of the cleanser from Walmart I shared last week.

NYX Hydra Touch Primer
--All my dry skin girls say, "Yeahhh!" Okay, just me? This primer was okay, kinda nothing special, but it smelled good! And I think it was blue. I think I imagined that. Wouldn't buy again.

Acure Smoothing Shampoo
--This smelled SO DANG GOOD (coconuts, if memory serves) and it worked well too. Sometimes I want this wavy, frizzy mess straight and this worked. This was a PR sample, but I'd snatch it right on up again.

Which of these interested you?

  6. Better Than Sex is my favorite high end mascara too. I like those wipes, but I am just so in to the makeup remover balms lately that I haven't been using many wipes. I have an empties post scheduled for tomorrow. I love empties!

  7. I makes me sad that most high-end mascara onky come in black, which I find to be way too harsh on my pale skin. I've always wanted to try the Better Than Sex mascara!

I'm thinking about you today Elle. Losses like that never get easier, but they somehow become easier to bear.

  8. I know that everybody loves the Better Than Sex mascara, but to be honest it's not really my favorite. I do love the Benefit mascaras though, and the Rollerball one is so good! Thinking about you today!

  10. This is the second post today where the Better Than Sex Mascara has been mentioned. I am really going to have to try it now! I do have a ton of mascara I need to go through, too! So sorry to hear today is the 2 year anniv. of your dads death. That has to be rough. My dad has been having a lot of health issues the last couple of years and it worries me to pieces. Hugs to you!

  11. That's the kind of loss you never really quite get over. My thoughts are with you Elle. I'm using the Heimish All Clean Balm now and I want to love it but the weird scent really gets to me sometimes.

  12. I'm usually not willing to pay for pricey make up but mascara? Yeah, I'll pay - & I'm on the hunt for a good one so I may need to check that one out.

  13. Sending love and prayers your way today, Elle. I would have to agree with the Simple Cleansing Wipes. I love their face wash and use it daily, but I never felt like the cleansing wipes got everything off my face. I do love the brand though!

  14. I'm not sure if you knew this, but I'm a retired dentist. So I love white teeth too!! When the whitening makes your teeth sensitive, it can help to use some prescription fluoride gel or even the sensitive tpastes for awhile?? That's what I end up having to do for my teeth!!

  18. I would really like to try the Benefit Roller Lash out of your empties. I swear by the elf makeup wipes. I tried those Simple ones too and didn't love them.

  19. Oh friend, anniversaries are so hard. *hugs* I'll be praying for you today!

I've had so many people tell me that they loved the Better Than Sex mascara that I bought it last year. It wasn't a dud by any means, but I honestly liked a couple of my drugstore mascaras better. Which seems crazy, but there it is. ;) There's always gotta be someone who disagrees with the crowd, right?

  20. I'm a huge fan of the Benefit Roller Lash- which reminds me, I'm out! Need an Ulta run, stat...

  21. Heimish All Clean Balm is in my list to purchase! I don't get along with BTS and Roller Lash mascaras, the former is the only mascara that flakes like crazy on me and Roller lash did nothing for my lashes.

  22. I have a large sample of an Acure face mask that I love, so I'm really interested in trying the hair care too!

  23. I can't believe it's been two years already, Elle. ((((hugs))))
And out of the list, I'm really interested in that Better Than Sex mascara. Sounds fab!

  24. Thinking of you today Elle, and sending you lots of love and hugs.

I haven't tried the too faced mascara but it's always been on my wish list. I do like the rolled Lash though! I need to try gag shampoo you mentioned, that sound amazing!

  25. Better Than Sex mascara is my favorite! I hate the price but I'll pay it.

I bought the Simple wipes for my daughter but she won't use them because she hates the way they smell.

  28. Wow Elle, I didn't know your father passed away. My father passed away 4 months ago. You are definitely in my thoughts--anyone who has gone through such a thing is. On to lighter things-- I love that too faced mascara! I also don't usually buy extremely expensive mascaras, but this one is just way too good, it really does something for your lashes. I don't know how, but I got mine for $10, so I'm really scared when its going to run out and I'm going to have to purchase it full price.
--also, if you want amazing cleansing wipes, the nature republic brand does amazing and pretty natural ones.

  30. I love and continue to repurchase the Better Than Sex. I don't love the Simple wipes either. I would repurchase the Roller Lash, but it's not a must have for me. I'm trying to use up the NYX Hydra Touch Primer. I don't love it either and it's pricey to be drugstore and just ok. I love these posts, keep 'em coming!

  31. I need to try roller lash some time! I love the scent of roses so would try out that cream!

  32. So, I kow how shocking it is... and there are many staged of grieving. You are still passing through some, and please don't take me wrong, it's a pain that never leaves. And somehow it keeps us connected to our beloved ones, this is how psychology explains that. No matter which explanation, the fact is that once I heard something from a friend: if we miss our beloved ones, it shows that they fulfilled their job as parents in an excellent way. I am sorry for your loss, I truly am :( Your empties gave me some good advice. I love mascaras and now I want the Better than Sex one and the Benefit one. I have some Benefit products, including a mascara, and I wasn't so keen of that, so this one seems to be better! Thanks for that!
