Covergirl So Lashy! Blastpro Mascara Review

A new month, a new mascara release! I don't have to tell y'all that my beauty weakness is mascara and lipstick and highlighters.  When I first saw the new Covergirl SO LASHY! BLASTPRO MASCARA in a magazine, I made a note to find it. As luck would have it, I got a chance to try it out. So after quite a bit of testing, I am ready to share my thoughts.

Here's what the box looks like so you can find it in stores or online.

And this is what it looks like once unboxed. Notice the unique wand design, which I'll talk about more in a moment.

Features:
  • $10.49 (some places will be cheaper--Walmart has it for $8.94)
  • 3-in-1 brush shapes, molds and builds lashes regardless of your lash type
  • specialized ball tip gets the corners and hard to reach lashes
  • also in waterproof
  • 5 shades

The first thing I noticed, and the big selling point here, is the wand. As mentioned above, this is supposed to shape, mold, and build lashes, with the ball getting those hard-to-reach spots.

I found the brush design to be awkward and hard to figure out for usage. I felt like there needed to be one line of bristles for this design, not 4 sides, since you can only use one side at a time. I really liked the ball and it was true to word about getting those hard-to-reach spots.

It's a buildable mascara. It reminds me a little of their Clump Crusher. It looks too natural with one coat on, but I was able to get the look I wanted with an additional coat. It can get clumpy, but that was after several coats.

The formula didn't flake, smudge, or irritate my eyes, and my eyes have been SUPER sensitive lately due to allergies. But this mascara didn't aggravate them.

On your left, I have on two coats. On the right, no mascara. I'm hoping you can see the difference. If not, click the pic to enlarge. This makes a nice every day mascara that is buildable. You don't get as much length as other mascaras, and it's definitely better the longer the you use it. If you try it once and don't like it, keep trying it. It might grow on you like it did for me.

Overall:

I give the Covergirl So Lashy! mascara 4 out of 5 stars. I'm taking away points for the brush design, although I did like the ball on the end. The formula is nice--not too dry or wet and can be worn as a more natural mascara or built up in intensity.

Have you tried this mascara yet?

  2. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was how do you use that brush?! It's a very interesting design and good that the ball gets all the hard to reach spots, but I feel like I would get mascara all over my face! Great review, Elle!

  6. Well that's an interesting wand? lol Can you imagine being at the meeting when that wand was brought to the table. Hmmm I've never been a fan of Covergirl mascaras. I've always found their wands to be very large for my lashes. Interesting though. lol

  7. Oh wow... your lashes look fantastic. I think I need to try this one!

  8. Hmm, I don't think this mascara will work for me but I rarely have any luck with CoverGirl mascaras. That wand really looks complicated to use.

  9. Haven't tried that one. The brush is almost a little scary. =) I like the stuff I have now, but it would be worth trying out this kind. Still, I'd better figure out a new conditioner first. Ever since my last baby and move, I can't find a good conditioner. Maybe I'm just getting old.

  10. Mascara is my weakness too! But I rarely try new ones. This sounds good! The wand does look a little hard to get used to, but your lashes look great.

  11. I've been trying that out this week and I am glad you said that about the brush. I wasn't a huge fan, but the ball tip was kind of nice. I definitely had to use several coats to get the amount I wanted, too. It looks really nice on you!

  12. It looks really good on you! If you had trouble with the brush though...there is no way that a make up neophyte like myself is going to be able to use that thing! Thanks for the review. :)

  13. I haven't seen this one yet of theirs. Some of their wands get crazy! I had the Plumpify(?) one most recently in the red tube and the brush was huge but it worked so well that I am intrigued to try this one too. I could see how that ball would help.

  14. I like the fact that it has a ball on the tip that can get to those hard to reach spots, but I'll be honest the wand is a bit weird looking haha! You've got some gorgeous lashes, Elle!

  15. Wow! That is one fancy wand! I do like when there is a ball at the end, so I will definitely have to give this one a try!

  16. Mascara is one of my weaknesses too, and I'm always excited to try new ones even though I have 2 holy grails that I always keep in my makeup drawers. I just received this mascara, and am glad to hear that it gets even better the more you wear it <3

  19. I love that they have the ball on the wand to help to get to hard to reach places, but that sucks that the design was hard to use! It sounds like it's a really great mascara, and I love that it builds!

  21. 4 out 5...that sounds great. That brush does look like it'll take awhile to get used to, but yay for the formulation.

  23. You know, each time a brand comes out with a "new" mascara, I always look at the wand and more times than not, it doesn't look any different or notably different than the others. This, however, is VERY different than any brush I've seen, very interesting and you can defiantly see the difference in your lashes! Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having a great week so far!

  24. I have this mascara but haven't given it a try yet. I don't like having too many mascaras open at once...I'm a total weirdo. LOL! It looks like a good mascara on you!

  25. OOh I loved the givenchy ball end mascara and have no budget for it now, I love that this combines that with regular, although sounds complicated from your review. I will pick it up anyway and try it out myself.

  26. When I first saw this mascara I wondered about the wand. It seems tricky to use so I'm not surprised you said that. But seeing how great it looks on you, it looks like a winner!

  29. I was hoping someone would review this before I decided whether or not to buy it. I think I'm going to pass. I want a dramatic effect from mascara. Also, CoverGirl is hiking up their prices! I do like the idea of the ball thingy on the end though.

  33. Never seen anything like it! I'm happy with my current mascaras and the original lash blast will always be my favorite but I might try this!

  34. Ooh interesting - I'm going to be Stateside shortly so can't wait to hit up Duane Reade... And stock up on cheaper mascaras. I've been very partial to the Chanel Inimitable Waterproof not sure I'll be able to make the switch... I love the wand cos its not so big - I have small eyes and lashes!! But would love to try some different ones out...

  35. I saw this at walmart the other day, the only thing stoping me from getting it was I have a couple I already have going at the moment. Once I'm done those I will be going out and getting this, why because CG mascara's are my favourite have not come across one I didn't like at all. I love their formula is just love how it wears and stay put with out all the hassle of some others. This was a great post, makes me now wish I picked it up !!
