2015 Wrinkle Ranking--What Did Your State Rank?

Picture this: You've got a busy day ahead and you're already stressed out. First is the commute to work. Then you have a deadline you've got to meet. You're on-the-go for the rest of the afternoon. The meeting with the boss didn't go well. It was a tough day. Back in the car for the commute home. You're too tired to cook, so fast food it is, and maybe some alcohol to relax. Sound familiar? Sure, we know about the effects of this lifestyle health-wise, but what about skin-wise?

Could these be contributing factors to wrinkles?

RoC Skincare, an anti-aging pioneer, has partnered with independent research firm, Sperling’s Best Places, to release the second annual Wrinkle Ranking. I had no idea this existed, but found it fascinating. I think you will too!

The 2015 RoC® Wrinkle Ranking determines the U.S. states where the residents’ skin are most at risk from damage caused by lifestyle, occupational and environment factors. Let's see where your state ranked:

Find your state--these are ranked from most-wrinkle prone to least. What is your state ranked?

Next, find your state--where you live could make you more or less wrinkle-prone. I live in Georgia, which ranked 27. Check out the likelihood of getting wrinkles based on where you live.

The study also found the top five factors that contribute to wrinkles. These include low winter temp, increase in extreme weather temps, commute time, sunny days, and elevation. Find your state and the wrinkle-contributing factor.

Here's what the study found:
  • The “Big Apple” is Stressed at its Core: New York (Ranked #1) reports very high scores for being “dissatisfied with life” and “lacking emotional support,”and has the second-longest commute times
  • Battling Beltway Influences: The District of Columbia ranks in the middle of the list (Ranked #23). Washington, D.C. has the lowest rate of skin cancer, but this is offset by high scores for ozone pollution, lengthy commute, long work week and binge drinking
  • All That Sunshine is Serving Them Well: States such Hawaii (Ranked #47), Mississippi (Ranked #31), and Louisiana (Ranked #29), while considered to be the sunniest states, actually have the lowest rates of skin cancer and averted being ranked in the top 25 most prone wrinkle states
  • High Health Alert South of the Mason-Dixon: Southern states such as West Virginia (Ranked #3), Tennessee (Ranked #8) and Kentucky (Ranked #7) ranked in the top 10 due to their generally poor diet and high percentage of smokers
So what can you do?
  • Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the RoC® Wrinkle Ranking, and learn more about the critical factors that contribute to your state’s rank.
  • Step 2: Adopt practices and use products that can help reduce and eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, like RoC® RETINOL CORREXION® Deep Wrinkle  Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30This moisturizer with broad spectrum spf 30 is clinically shown to visibly diminish deep wrinkles after 8 weeks of use. After 12 weeks’ use, even deep wrinkles are visibly diminished!

What did you think of the study? Were you surprised at your state's results?

This post is brought to you by RoC® Skincare.

  1. Woohoo Oregon and Washington!!! My home state and my current home state. I blame it on mild weather and relaxed attitudes. But the commutes are pretty brutal if you live in Seattle or Portland.

  2. oh my - my skin don't stand a change according to the charts

  3. I find these kinds of studies so interesting! I'm not surprised that the Northeast ranks high on likelihood of wrinkles. I'm originally from New Jersey which according to this map say it gets the "silver medal for pollution". I'm from a rural part of NJ, so I always felt I was breathing fresh air, but when you are on the highway driving towards NYC you see all the factories and the not-so-pretty parts of NJ. Maybe that is what they are basing it on. In any case, I think we should just all move to Hawaii haha

  4. I'm loving the visuals of these maps. Such a great post, Elle! I would definitely agree that the majority of wrinkles in Virginia are caused by commutes, mine is just awful! So insightful and interesting, thanks so much for sharing!

  9. Alabama is on the extreme temperature list, surprise surprise!!! I have been meaning to try an ROC moisturizer for wrinkles.

  10. I'm originally from West Virginia so I'm not surprised by the poor "state" of health. Hopefully my new morning commute into Atlanta won't give me wrinkles!

  11. I'm so glad I moved to Georgia. Ohio was number 10. Georgia is 27. But yeah, the long commutes can take a toll on your sanity and contribute to frown lines! ;0)

  12. I know that weather is a contributing factor to my wrinkles and skin - especially the winters!! xo, Biana

  13. Hmm, definitely a very interesting study and I'm not surprise that the weather plays a huge part in the wrinkle department.

  17. This is so interesting. Utah fairs pretty well, but it's so dry here and I think that's contributing to wrinkles. I've lived in humid states before and hate what it does to my hair, but love what it does to my skin.

  18. Love this post, such a fun way to look at how environments effect skincare. Thanks for sharing. Georgia is in the middle, so I can't blame the state for my crows feet!

  27. Florida is not high on the list but I feel like my commute + job definitely contribute to wrinkles although we tend to have nice weather.

  33. Lovely! My state gets the silver medal for pollution and the commute time factor! Am I doomed? haha I can relate to the commute thing. It's crazy how many people really commute and it really is taxing. I could totally see how this is related to wrinkles! Great post as usual, Elle!

  36. Massachusetts is ranked #5 and I'm not surprised because of the hot summers, extreme Winters' and crappy commutes. We are screwed no matter what we do! Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  37. This was super interesting! I thought I was safe in MN with all of the inside activity due to the cold (no sun = no sunburn) - but the extreme cold also takes a toll... great post!

  38. Doesn't surprise me Ohio is high on these lists. Everyone in Ohio smokes, or drinks, or eats garbage. Ok not "everyone," but you get what I deal with on an average day. I'm actually allergic to retinol. Weird, but that's me. Allergic to a ton of cosmetic and beauty things. haha. Instead of retinol infused products I use Rosehip seed oil like you would I serum. We'll see in ten years if it's doing anything. (;

  39. Oh no, I'm in #1!!! Though at least now when the wrinkles pop up, I'll have something to blame it on!

It's so detailed, and people can see what causes wrinkles (other than just frowning and nourishing) and I loved to read about the differences in all the states! I love RoC, by the way, it's really good; I never used that cream, but many other products!

  45. Well this is an interesting read!! We are "smack in the middle" here in IL! We are on the IL side of St. Louis, so I can definitely understand the biggest contributor to wrinkles being the commute! Nice to be able to work from home for sure! ;)

  54. So when I first looked at the colored map I was like "awesome! Tennessee is clearly on the better end of the spectrum for wrinkles" then I read what you wrote about the findings (putting TN in the top 10 worst). So I looked back at the map again and I think they may have miscolored it. Because TN the State is greenish, but on the list it's in yellow. It just made me laugh because I was so convinced that we were awesome here when I first saw it. ;)

  55. WOW this was super interesting! I live in GA but I'm from OH and hope to move back there, but it's grazing top 10! Haha I need to start taking better care of my skin for sure. This is crazy interesting, thank you for sharing!

  56. Not at all surprised to see NYC is number one on the list! I'm 22, so not half bad, right? But I can really see how all those factors quickly add up to suffering skin.
