Life Lately & Writing Process Tour

One of my outfits from the SBS Conference!

Up until last week, I used to have this silly notion that only 30 of you read my blog, meaning about 10 of you actually read it, 10 of you trolled my comments for new blogs to visit, and the other 10 entered my giveaways. BUT that all changed when I talked about suffering from social anxiety in this post.

I felt such an overwhelming amount of support and camaraderie from YOU on here, my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. For once, I didn't feel alone--you told me your stories of having social anxiety too. And even if you couldn't relate to that, you all gave me advice and encouragement. You didn't make me feel like I was weird because I find talking to people a terrifying challenge.

And so I finally attended a blogger conference this weekend. I cannot thank you enough for virtually being there for me, for cheering me on. I had a great time, even though I didn't speak up as much as I wanted. I was happy with almost how everything happened--I skipped the pool party on the last day and wish I would have gone. But there's always next time! Again, I cannot thank you enough for your love and support.

Items from my goodie bags!

I'd also like to thank Martha, who nominated me for the "My Writing Process" tour. Here are my questions and answers:

    1) What am I working on?
I write every day for my blog, and am always in the middle of a post. I love blogging and it truly makes me happy.
    2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
I encounter mostly style and personal blogs, so I feel differently having a beauty blog.
    3) Why do I write what I do?
I was tired of beauty myths that perpetuated from misinformed bloggers as well as poorly done reviews. There's a lot of bad or untrue info out there. I think I should be able to trust a blogger because she's knowledgeable about her work, not just because she's young and pretty.
    4) How does your writing process work?
I won't go into all of the blogging steps, but I do everything by myself. I don't have a photographer or someone to edit my pics--this was something I learned this weekend. Everyone seemed to have someone to help them out. I write in the evenings when I am home from work. I'm up very late and get up early.
To continue the tour, I nominate--
Bows and Nails--Emily is a blogger and has a beauty Youtube channel, and we've collaborated on a couple of videos. She is a sweetheart and is a writer!

Forever Alixandria--Alixandria is a beauty blogger who is a newlywed! She is so sweet and has a new blog.

Other life tidbits:
  • Charlie did well with his dental surgery. He is back to normal!
  • I celebrated the 4th at home, since Charlie was recooping, and I sat on the roof with friends to watch the fireworks. Because I live in Midtown, I could see all of the firework shows going on in the city. It was awesome!
  • I went to the Drive In! So much fun! The weather was amazing (a truly near impossible feat in Atlanta), I heard cicadas, watched the fireflies dance, and ate s'mores.
  • My sister and her family came up for a week or so. I got to see her and one of my nephew's at the Children's Museum.
  • I got my hair done--seriously one of my FAVE things ever.
Back to beauty tomorrow! :)

  13. I missed that post because I was on vacation, but good for you for sharing and for stepping out of your comfort zone Elle! You should be so proud ;) What fun goodies you got too!

  14. Congrats on going to your first blogging conference! I totally missed your post on having social anxiety and being a blogger because I was on vacation but I agree completely. I am always comparing myself to other bloggers, especially since one of my best friends is a blogger and we started our blogs around the same time and she has so much more success than I do. It's definitely tough but you're doing a great job! I don't even have the courage to ever do a YouTube video and you rock those girl! Be proud of yourself!!

    <3, Pamela

P.S. Glad Charlies surgery went well!! :)

  15. I am real happy to read that you had a lovely time at the conference. You can be really proud of yourself :)

  16. Thank you Elle, for nominating me :) I am so excited for my post next week!

  21. You look so chic! I'm so glad you had fun at the conference. Glad to hear that Charlie is back to normal as well! Thanks for answering the questions! Sometime I feel a little silly too when I hear that other bloggers have photographers and people to help with their makeup, editing, etc. I do it all solo, and once in a while the husband will take a photo if I can't set up the tripod!

  22. So glad you enjoyed yourself at the event! I haven't been to a drive-in in ages! Sounds awesome!

  23. I love reading these posts! It looks like you got so many amazing things from the event-- what a cool thing to attend :)

  24. It was such a fun weekend and I’m so glad we finally got to meet! I’ll of course be watching for your reviews on the beauty products we got!

  25. I love your blog. I find you really relatable and you give helpful info. I often don't comment because I'm usually reading while nursing my LO (so reading on my tablet). But I do read majority of your posts.

Glad to hear the weekend went well.

  26. Check out all that swag!! I'm glad you had fun at the conference!

  27. I am so glad you went to the conference! And also, I totally feel ya on the comments haha. Sometimes I'm like how many of you just scroll through all the pictures to write a generic "so cute! follow for a follow?" ahh the joys of blogging ;)

  28. So glad you had you a great time at the conference and mind you, a little bit jealous of your goody bag. We're glad you know how many lovely readers you have!

  29. First of all... your hair looks PHENOMENAL in that photo!

  33. You got so many great stuff there. Lucky you. P.S.- you look great in that outfit! That is a real winner there. The necklace really pops with that red shirt too.

  34. You look great, Elle! Sounds like you have been doing really well lately. I would love to go to a drive in. That's one thing I have always wanted to do, but just haven't yet!

  35. wow your swag bag trumps mine!! guess i should have stayed the whole day on saturday for that kind of hookup!! so glad i finally got to meet you in person at the coffee talk - it was a great morning!

  36. Hi Elle, just recently found your blog and have loved it! Cannot tell you how much I understand your description of life with S.A. I'm older than you but my entire life has been lived like this & I've missed out on countless opportunities & experiences as a result of it coupled with not-great self esteem. Just wanted you to know you have another supporter cheering you on from the sidelines ;) On your videos you come across as a really lovely & kind person! Anyway, thank you for your honesty & keep up the great blogging!!

  37. I love this outfit! So pretty and chic! Great for a blogger conference! And girl, I'm so glad you went and had fun! Good for you! :)

  38. Glad you had a great time and looks like you got a lot of goodies there!!

  39. I'm so glad you went to the blogger event and had a good time! Also, I'm sure the other bloggers were totally impressed that you do everything yourself. I think most other people have friends or photographers taking their pictures, and you do it all! It's really amazing. :)

  40. Very happy to hear that you attended the conference. But seriously, orange is definitely your color. Gorgeous!!!

  41. Well, I think you have probably thousands of readers each day! The thing is that we only get most of the times comments from other bloggers and not really from those "quiet" readers who do not write a blog themselves. I wish they would also somehow be able to show their presence!!! You are such a darling my Elle and now that I know we are both 76er girls I feel even more connected to you!!! Kisses, Sissi www.beauty4free2u.com

  42. I think that it's amazing u went to the meetup! And I like yourself, do everything for my blog. So I know how time consuming it is. Your blog is an amazing example of what a blog should look and be like! Love it and u girl!!!!

  43. I guess I'll just leave my e-mail here so you can reply directly :)

I have to say that your blog also feels personal and that defines it so much. I trust your information, so may I say, kudos on keeping such a detailed and sweet blog running. It's always a pleasure to read it!
