Beauty DIY: Christmas Lotion Bars

I've got another DIY for you today--lotion bars! These are easy to make and make wonderful gifts, especially last-minute ones. They're perfect for travel, too. You'll love them!

N e e d:
  • Silicone mold--I used ones from Target and Wal-Mart that are around $1
  • 1 part beeswax
  • 1 part coconut oil or shea butter
  • essential oil (optional)
  • glass container
  • cooking pot, water, stove, pot holders, spoon
D o:
  • The best and fastest way to make these is to use a double boiler. You can microwave, but it is unpredictable and takes forever/
  • Be sure to use a glass container that you aren't going to reuse for food, as it will be hard to clean.
  • Place the oil(s) and beeswax in the glass container and allow to melt.
  • Stir, add essential oil(s), and then pour into your mold.
  • Allow to set and harden for a couple of hours.
  • Pop lotion bars out of mold and then store in an air-tight container.

T r y:
  • Beeswax is used because it helps to hold the shape and allows the lotion bars to harden. It is also fine for the skin, as opposed to regular wax. Beeswax holds moisture and is non-comedigenic. If giving this as a gift, please be sure the recipient isn't allergic to beeswax or any of the ingredients.
  • While I use silicone molds, ice trays work great too.
  • I used just two products here, but feel free to mix equal parts shea and coconut oil.
  • I don't suggest dyeing the lotion bars.
  • To use, simply break off a piece of heat the lotion using body heat.
  • There are so many ways to present these--I used an old candle jar and filled it with fake snow.
  • These store well for up to a year.

Hurry and enter these great giveaways!

    9. You are so talented. I need to get a double boiler and figure this out. It's so much nicer to make your own beauty products and know what's in them.
