How To: Easy Ombre Tips

Hey you! How was your weekend? I totally forgot about Cinco de Mayo this year. I know! I had plans for cute DIYs and a nail tutorial. At least I'll be ready for 2014! ;) This weekend was rainy, and my only venture out was to get my eyebrows professionally "done." Turns out, it was a huge waste of money, because I've been doing everything I'm supposed to with my brows anyway. I haven't waxed my brows in years, preferring instead to have them threaded, as the last time I waxed I had an allergic reaction. The same thing happened this time, and I looked crazy. I had a blogger event I wanted to attend, but cancelled once I saw Crazy Swollen And Bumpy Face. Instead, I headed home and painted my nails a sparkly peach. Speaking of nails, I'm sharing these Easy Ombre Tips. If you want to sort of fake the ombre effect very subtly, check these out. Enjoy!

  • 2 similar polishes
  • base and clear top coat

Paint a base coat and allow to dry.
Paint a coat or two of the base coat and allow to dry. It should be the darker of the two shades.

Paint the tips of the nail the lightest color and allow to dry.
I find it easiest to hold the brush and slowly rotate my nail to paint the tips straight as possible.
Repeat if needed.
Seal with a top coat.

  • I was feeling minty the day I took these pics, but feel free to use whatever two colors you like.
  • Holding the brush still while rotating the nail is the easiest way to ensure a straight line.
What color is on your nails today?

  5. You are so full of great tips, Elle - I had never thought of rotating my nail instead of the brush! My nails are bare today after a week in dark red followed by a wheek in shimmery peach... but now you have me contemplating mint!

  7. I don't like getting my eyebrows waxed too, which I why I opt for threading when I get the time, which is almost very rare....;P

  9. Oh I love this method- definitely will have to try it on the weekend! I've usually done the ombre nails with the sponge but this looks so much easier/cleaner hah!

I currently have my all time favorite on- OPI's I'm Not Really a Waitress! I figured this was a bit of my personality but also professional enough for an attorney in a law office!

  14. Your nails look cute, the amount of times I went to get my eyebrows done at different places and all they did was neaten them, they looked exactly the same as I do them lol, xoxo.

  21. So cute! Every time I paint my own nails, it looks like a 5 year old did it. :) My sister-in-law treated me to a mani/pedi for my birthday, so I am currently wearing a nude OPI polish. Hope you are well!
