Ria's Bluebird

Edit: This review was all written up and pics were taken via my phone, which is now DUNZO, so the pics featured are all via Google.

I've told y'all before I'm not a big breakfast person, but when I saw the new TLC show "Best Food Ever" and this place was mentioned as one of the best breakfasts in the US, I had to check it out.

Ria's Bluebird is a busy, hopping place located in Cabbagetown (across from the famous Oakland Cemetery). I went on a Saturday morning, which is the busiest time. I waited around 20 minutes before being taken to the back, which apparently isn't bad. Here's where we sat as we listened to the fish fountain (below). The whole place has a vibe of hippie, diner, and kitsch, which all are blended together beautifully.

The New York times said that Ria's had the world's best pancakes, so OF COURSE that's what I ordered. The pancakes are hand-sifted buttermilk pancakes and are delicious.

Ria's Bluebird has a variety of menu items, such as huevos, grilled brisket, breakfast burritos, fish and grits, and plenty of vegetarian options.

When I went, I saw TOP CHEF contestant Kevin Gillepsie dining with his wife. This has nothing to do with the pics above. Ha! I just wanted to post more food pics. See below:

The prices aren't bad either, with most offerings averaging around $5-7. Not in the mood for breakfast? There's lunch too! Check out the menu here. Hungry yet? I know I'll be back. Breakfast is the highlight here, but I wanna try lunch next time.

ELLE'S TIPS: Go early on the weekend or be prepared to wait. There's very little waiting area, so if it's hot or raining, you might want to reconsider, but that doesn't discourage Ria's many fanatics. Parking was a little cramped, but a nice man offered to help me as I was backing out of the lot. The grits (a Southern delicacy) were THE best I've ever tasted. Visit the website for weekly specials and there's no separate checks.

  11. Hi Elle,

Thanks for your comment by the way! Yes, if you work there and do not enjoy or drink coffee...you're definitely considered to be 'missing the party'. One of the best parts of working there- that's how I got hooked! When I started, I couldn't stand the smell of coffee even!
    Love your background colors BTW:).
