LOVE WEEK: Chocolate Body Butter

Hurray for the weekend! What are your plans? I'm currently in the mountainsfor the weekend! I've really enjoyed LOVE WEEK, and hope you've had the chance to check out my posts. I've shared DIY, makeup, and hair ideas. Today I'm making Chocolate Body Butter! If only it was edible, right? If you're looking for a sweet treat that smells delicious, feels amazing, and is zero calories, give this a try. Enjoy!

1 c cocoa butter (shea butter or coconut oil work too)
2 tsp. cocoa powder
1-2 drops of Vitamin E
microwavable bowl
hand mixer

Measure your cocoa butter and melt it in the microwave. This takes about two minutes to melt, depending on what base you use. Be sure to watch that it doesn't burn or boil over.

Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and place it in the freezer to harden.

Once the oil has hardened, take a hand mixer and mix it to a body butter consistency. It will look like icing.

Add the Vitamin E and the cocoa powder to the butter and mix thoroughly with a spoon or the mixer. I used a plastic spoon to make clean up a little bit easier. I used milk chocolate powder, which gives it the lighter color, but dark cocoa powder allows it to look more like chocolate. You can also use a chocolate essential oil in addition or instead of the cocoa powder.

That's it! The cocoa butter is moisturizing, which is so needed in the winter months. The Vitamin E serves as an antioxidant for the body butter and helps it last longer. The body butter will keep for a couple of months.

Bonus: If you already have unscented or vanilla body butter, all you will need to do is add the cocoa powder and mix thoroughly. I've tried cocoa powder with mint or almond body butters, but it didn't smell great!

Note: If you are allergic or sensitive to chocolate, do not add it. If you are allergic to nuts, read the packaging to see if your cocoa powder was processed in the same facility as nuts before using. Due to the richness of the body butter, avoid using on the face.

Have a great weekend! Be safe, behave, and be well. Love, Elle

  1. Does it smell yummy too? Sounds amazing!

    always, koru kate

  2. sounds really nice! thanks for sharing :)

  3. can you make one for me and send it via post? hihi

  4. I can only imagine how wonderful this smells, let alone feels smoothed on dry skin. Have a wonderful weekend my dear.

  5. I'm sure it smells heavenly! Have a sweet-smelling weekend;)

  6. Oooooohhh, that looks great. Might just give me a reason to head to our local bio store just to find cocoa butter.

  7. Sheesh, and here I thought you were going to model the body chocolate butter.

  8. I am a huge fan of coconut oil. My girls hair gets so brittle from swimming in chlorine so much and it seems to help. I put it in during the swim and sometimes overnight.

  9. Oh. My. Gosh. I need this. My elbows are dying. And I'm a sucker for chocolate anything. Especially this time of year.

  10. That's so interesting with adding cocoa powder to get the chocolate flavour! I didn't even know there was such a thing as chocolate essential oil either - you learn something new every day :p

  11. Isn't this something that would stain your clothes?!?

  12. @Ashley No, it doesn't stain your clothes. I don't share anything on my blog that i haven't been using for years or have tested throughly. Even my nailstutorials are tested in several ways/times before sharing.

You're using such a small amount of powder for a whole container. If this is a concern, use the chocolate essential oil instead as suggested.

  13. This sounds so wonderful, I have to make this stuff.

  14. Does the cocoa leave a bit of color on the skin?

  15. @lawyer doll no, but if you are concerned, try using the scented oil instead

  16. This looks fabulous!! I'm thinking a project for next weekend!!

  17. I am going to try and make it !!

  18. I can practically smell that over the Internet!!

  19. This looks fantastic, and I'm sure it smells amazing.

  20. Oh I'm so glad to have found coconut oil - it's quite a wonderful moisturizer and smells so good too

  21. Sounds wonderful!

  23. Wow! That looks yummy. I love your body butter.

  24. Sounded "yummy" and "delicious" but when I tried this with coconut oil (as it says in the instructions ) it came out an oily mess. Maybe with shea butter the recipe would be better, but this was nothing like a "body butter" that disappears on your skin after it is applied. I might try it one more time when I can find true Shea butter but in my opinion the coconut oil is unusable.
