DUPE? Chanel Soleil Bronzer Vs. Sonia Kashuk Creme Bronzer

Extra Elle: This was supposed to go up on Tuesday, but well, I accidentally overslept...as in I turned off the alarm and thought my natural alarm clock would wake me up. Nope! So you're getting the post today!

Just because it's cold outside and dreary doesn't mean that I don't want to warm things up! I'm talking bronzers, y'all. And not just any bronzers, but cream bronzers. These are excellent for dry skin, whether you want to warm up your complexion or add contour. I'm testing out a $50 bronzer vs. one that's $10.99. Could there be a possible dupe to save lots of money?

$50

Chanel.com, online, stores where Chanel is sold
(I suggest Chanel so you can get the box)

1 ounce

They say, "The velvety finish of this light cream-gel bronzer leaves your skin with a beautiful sun-bathed look. Wear it on its own, or for a hint of outdoors radiance, over or under your favorite CHANEL foundation."

Slight bit of radiance that is undetectable on skin.

Slightly scented, but you don't notice it once applied.

$10.99

Target, online and instores

.18 ounce

They say, "The innovative cream-to-powder formula melts into skin and delivers a buildable dose of natural translucent color, while minimizing imperfections using soft focus technology. The weightless cream glides easily over the skin, making the formula ideal to enhance and sculpt both the face and body for a lit-from-within glow."

Not scented

Random fact--if you've been reading Elle Sees long enough, you might remember me interviewing Sonia Kashuk! I was really sick and trying to sneakily take care of a newborn at the same time. I was going to link the video, but they took it down, haha.

So now that we have the basics, let's compare them.

Here they are side by side, with Chanel on your left. They look sort of similar in the pan.

Chanel is on the top and Sonia Kashuk is the bottom swatch. They look pretty much exact, right?

This is it swatched on my skin--not how I do contour,  just demonstrating it other than my hand or arm. I generally use this as a bronzer as it is too warm for me to contour with. The Sonia Kashuk one blends out too much for my liking, but for the price, you can't beat it! I personally prefer the Chanel. Color-wise this is a dupe, but wear time, you gotta go with the Chanel...but price wise, Sonia Kashuk!

Check out my video--it's really quick--on the products mentioned above:

Have you tried either of these? What did you think of the video?

  1. I love the Chanel Soleil Bronzer, it's seriously my favourite as it applies and blends like a dream! I only wish it wasn't so 'bronzey' and the tone was a little cooler because I think it would make a great contour product!

  2. I don't think they are dupes because for me a Chanel product is unique and unreplacable XD but they both look awesome XD

  3. For how often I use bronzer I would definitely go with the dupe on this one!! I just can't spend a ton on bronzer - I'd go through it too quickly I'm afraid LOL! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  4. I cannot believe how similar these two products are. I am a big believer in bronzer especially in the winter to warm up our pale faces. I can't wait to check out the Sonia Kashuk version.

  7. Great review of both! I don't use bronzer very much so I would go with the Sonia Kashuk one. Have a great day Elle!

  8. Wow what a great dupe! I almost never wear bronzer but is it bad I want the Chanel one just for the packaging? Haha! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  11. Oh how I need bronzer come January, such a pretty glow! I usually spring for the more expensive line for longer wear. Sounds like the Chanel is worth it <3

  12. No shame in having a bronzer collection, my dear:D And dang! That's a pretty close dupe. SK for me, although the Chanel packaging....swoon.

  13. I love these posts! I probably will pick up the SK just to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

  14. I think the chanel one looks a little bit more pigmented on the skin but that price is way too much for my liking lol

  15. I never wore a bronzer, but I do like Chanel products very much, although, like you said, both colors can look quite the same on the swatches. I liked the applicator of Sonia Kashuk. We tend to trust our inner clock and then we sometimes oversleep - but that's our bodies saying we do need more sleep! Or so I think :)

  16. Looks like there is a bit of a difference in pigmentation, but overall they're pretty close!

  17. Looks great! I actually LOVE using bronzer... it makes such a huge, yet subtle, difference! <3 - http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com

  18. I only started getting into bronzing a year ago and am tempted to splurge for the Chanel. I am a little worried about using a cream bronzer though but from the videos that I have watched, you really can't go wrong with Chanel.

  19. I often say you get what you pay for. But sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised. Sounds like this time Chanel is the gold standard!

  20. I don't use brozner to contour either and when I see people do it, it makes me nervous. Sometimes it's too warm! I've heard so many good things about the Chanel bronzer. I've only started using bronzer within the last year so I might have to work up the courage to try a cream bronzer!

  21. I haven't try these. I love my smasbox bronzer.

  23. The colors do look very similar! Love having a cheaper version of something so pricey!

  24. I definitely need to try out the Soleil! Cant beat it for the price!

  25. I love a good dupe, and while I wouldn't expect it to be as good as Chanel for $10, I definitely think it sounds like it's worth a try!

  26. Both products really look and sound awesome! I probably get the Sonia Kashuk Bronzer since Chanel is a little pricey lol. Great review and comparisons Elle!

  27. I've heard great things about both of these bronzers! It's been years since I've been into makeup and I still have yet to try and use cream products! I don't know why. They look so similar in color, but that's good to know that the Chanel one lasts longer!

  28. Great review and there is something about Chanel packaging that I love! I do currently wear the Chanel Color Sticks and do like how it lasts most of the day..
