Ipsy Glam Bag for June (Plus Video)

  • So, prepare yourself for a long intro and some chit chat. First, how are you? I'm ok--we had some crazy weather last week, with a tornado warning. I didn't think it was a big deal but to experience scary weather outside made it seem like a big deal. I was walking Charlie when the sky got dark and the wind started like nothing I've experienced. I felt an immediate panic, grabbed Charlie, and ran for my life, because in movies the tornado appears and chases the actor, but here I was right in the middle, as it unfolded. Scary. Anyway, how was your weekend? Mine was great! I was in the mountains and the weather was amazing; a nice break from the Atlanta heat. Charlie loved all the new things to mark sniff. Did you see all my pics on Instagram?
  • As requested by y'all for years, I started a YouTube channel a couple of months ago. This is huge for me, as I'm the most awkward person you've ever met. I tend to post a video a week and I have about 13. I embed them in the post, but if you want to subscribe to my channel, it's here. I'm ElleSeesYou over there and I always take requests.
  • I had anonymous comments turned off on my blog last week, since spam has gotten out of control, but I've turned it off. Everything is back to normal. If only the spammers would leave!
  • Last week was my annual Summer Week (did you see?) and next week is my annual Beach Week. I've got no-heat waves, my annual recipe for beachy waves, a beauty diy, and a nail tutorial. I hope you stop by.
  • I also wanted to let y'all know this week I'm doing a few product reviews. One is sponsored, one is purchased by me, and the others are sent for review. I don't like having more than one pr review in a week, but that's how the timing worked out. I don't ever want this to become the "everything you see is sponsored or sent for review" blog, so no worries. My reviews are genuine, as you know. I know, I'm over-analyzing and worrying over nothing, but my integrity is so important to me. Just wanted to get that off my chest. Now onto the fun stuff! :)

This month's Ipsy Glam Bag theme for June is On the Wild Side. I took this to mean that I would receive products a little out of my comfort zone and "wild." I think I did! Let's see what I got:
  • Animal print bag with chartreuse accents--cute
  • Starlooks Lip Pencil (bare)--This taupe brown lip pencil would work on many skin tones, but not mine. I gave my already purple lips an even more purple look. But add some lipstick or gloss over it, and it's fine.
  • Nyx Blush (sand)--I was convinced this was a shadow! This brown blush with golden shimmer again would look better on a skin tone other than mine. I chose to wear it as a blush in the pic and video below, but it's virtually undetectable. But I love to look at products in a different way, so I've used it as bronzer (not to contour), eyeshadow, blush, and polish.
  • J. Cat Beauty Sparkling Cream Palette (volta) --A glitter cream palette that is helpful for Halloween, fantasy or cosplay, recitals or competitions (or the club, I ain't judging!), but not really for me.
  • Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil--I love a highlighter pencil because it has so many uses! It's creamy and doesn't drag on the skin. I use mine to highlight my brows, inner corners, tightline, and my lips.
  • J. Cat Beauty Eyelash (47)--These are some extreme lashes! I'll keep these for Halloween. I like that it came with latex-free glue and the glue is black.

Me, wearing some items from this month's bag!

Video time! Enjoy me, squinting at the camera because my glasses are off, as well as cheesy sound effects and a Charlie cameo. But seriously, here's my review of what I received in my Ipsy Glam Bag for June:

What did you receive in your Ipsy or Subscription Box?

  1. I can't wait for Beach Week because Summer Week was great! I got my first NYX blush recently and I really like it! The shade is Mocha and it's a perfect everyday summer blush. :)

  2. Great stuff. Luck you. I like the NYX blush. Looks amazing.

Yikes! Tornado. When I lived in the midwest, we had a tornado scare every other day. No fun.

  3. nice! this is actually my first month with ipsy. i loved it- i need to post my blog about it. but i seriously love this subscription.

  4. I never experienced a tornado (and hope never to), and it sounds really scary! Glad nothing bad happened.
I love your weekly series, and look forward to next week's one.
Thanks for your reviews. Funny thing is, for as long as I lived in the US I looked for a blush in that shade - all others were too pink/red for my complexion!

  5. I love seeing your videos, Elle - I know that you go way outside your comfort zone to do them, and that dedication that you have to your blog and your readers never ceases to impress me :)

  6. Hehe - those eyelashes ARE pretty extreme, huh? I've always wanted to try out some fake eyelashes, but I've always been paranoid about accidentally pulling out some of the few lashes I actually do have :)

  7. That must've been crazy being caught outside in a weather like that! :O And another great vid. I liked that roar...heehee

  8. I just love it when my blog friends make videos, really it enhances the post and makes me get to know you better. Totally loving everything here.

  9. I love how you try out products in unexpected ways. I've been reading about Nars multiple and it seems cool to wear a product for multiple purposes!

  10. I'm so glad you and Charlie are safe after that close call with the tornado- terrifying!

Love the leopard + neon on that bag. Super cute.

    Happy Tuesday!

  11. cute vlog. (as ush) i haven't done ipsy. i thought about it but i'm just not as in to makeup, as i would like to be. i don't even wear mascara. (oops the secret is out) actually i've been meaning to ask you if you can recommend a good mascara..i have super long lashes, and they're sensitive to everything i have tried. any suggestions?

p.s. i really enjoy keeping up with you on instagram. your eye makeup is always flawless. i need to comment more here on your blog, but usually i'm reading it from my phone, and it won't let me. boo! anyways have a lovely tuesday, elle.

  12. I liked my bag overall... I can't ever see myself wearing the glitter shadows though! haha I have never tried false lashes so I am curious to try those out. I got a different color blush than you did and I like it - more of a mauve color. I don't own any lip liners so I am pretty excited about that. But, my favorite is the highlighter! It's like they read my mind... I have been brow obsessed lately and eyeing different brow highlighters. So, that made it totally worth it for me! :-) Thanks for the honest review, as always!

  13. I just got my glam bag and I love it! I'm not sure about the lip pencil for my coloring either, but the highlighter pencil and blush were spot on. And instead of the lashes I got liquid eyeliner in charcoal, which is a great alternative for me to black!

  14. I was just in Atlanta, and yes, you guys had some serious storms! Our flights were delayed for quite a while!

BTW, I'll be moving to John's Creek at the end of July. Are you anywhere around there?

  15. I love watching you and Charlie! Don't let those negative comments get to you. "Woooosah!"
By the way, have you done the Rainbow Tag yet? Well I tag you my friend and looking forward to your post!

  16. I would wear that blush as a bronzer too , what an awesome selection of goodies though.

  17. I just got my Ipsy as well and I love it! I got most of the same stuff, but instead of lashes I got a gel liner. So glad you always did such great Ipsy bag posts that I just couldn't ignore them anymore and finally made the switch haha. Oh and Thanks for turning anonymous comments back on. Spam sucks I know =(

  18. Sorry that not many items were that suitable to you, but I still like these surprise sets as you can always give your besties the things you couldn't use

  19. Glad you made it through the scary weather. Looks like another great ipsy bag!

  20. I love your videos, Elle!

  22. Aww you're too humble! Your videos have been enjoyable to watch and you're totally not awkward. I appreciate your honest feedback. You actually got a much different bag than others I've been seeing around the web. But most people did get that glitter palette and hated it :/

  23. That blush looks so pretty! Also, good for you starting a YouTube channel. I would never be brave enough to do that, so I'm proud of you for going for it! :)

  24. I LOVE this post:)

Check out my new blog post and have a great day dear:)
