Movie of the Week: The Royal Tenenbaums

A semi-regular feature on ElleSees is sharing with you my favorite movies. This week's movie is Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums. This movie is a glimpse into the quirky and idiosyncratic lives of the Tenenbaums. When the patriarch of the family, Royal, is kicked out of his hotel, he hatches a plan to squirm his way back into his family's good graces. Chaos and hilarity ensue. Highlights of this movie include Gene Hackman's portrayal as Royal, the soundtrack, the characters, and the awesome set design. I'm constantly inspired by this movie and all of the lovely details that Wes and his brother created. I highly endorse it, if you like quirky, dry humor.

Pink is a dominant color throughout the movie, which was filmed in a house, not on set. I love the retro details--the pink phone, the boardgames, the record player. Each character has a distinct sense of style, which remains the same throughout their lives, and my inspiration board shows that. Margot loves her Lacoste dresses, fur, heavy eyeliner, and simple hair clip. Chas always wears an Addidas track suit. Richie is forever the tennis pro with head and wrist bands. Again, one of my fave movies and it cannot be missed.
