I had a hankering for something sweet and Highland Bakery fit the bill! But Highland Bakery is so much more than a bakery. Go to the website to see the amazing, drool-worthy photos.
Started over five years ago by Stacey Eames, this bakery has been recently featured on tv as one of the best bakeries in the US! Highland Bakery mills its own grains and creates fresh breads, cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other amazing things daily.
When I went, it was lunch on a weekday and I saw one of the stars from Vampire Diaries, which films nearby. They also serve brunch, which looked INCREDIBLE. I had one of the many sandwich offerings, the Herb Roasted Turkey. It had apricot mayo, avocado, tomato and lettuce, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette on grilled honey wheat. It was scrumptious. For dessert, we shared some mini red velvet, coconut, and German chocolate cupcakes. Excellent!
Speaking of dessert, here's some cakes made there that are true works of art!
Elle's Essential Tips: Be prepared for long lines. We breezed right in, but I've heard others have waited 45 minutes to be seated! Also, it's really, really, noisy. I didn't mind the happy chatter, but this might bother some. Get the french toast. It's huge, made from challah bread and is the most popular item.
