DUPE? Urban Decay Naked 3 VS LA Girl Nudes

I don't know when it happened, but somewhere along the way, I became a pink girl. I never really liked the color growing up--I was too cool for pink. Pink was too girly for me. I was tougher than pink. And to think many, many years ago, boys wore pink and girls wore blue. Wearing pink means you're weak? Being girly is weak? I'm glad I'm over that ridiculousness. What a silly stigma to throw on a color, right?

I've always been drawn to jewel tones for some reason--perhaps because they compliment my dark hair better. I don't know. But maybe blame it on being a blogger, blame it on the fact that the new pink shades are more appealing and are everywhere, but I've totally embraced it. Pink sort of calms me in a way--there's a creaminess to it. I'm now drawn to pastel pinks. It's even become part of my eye shadow collection--something this various shades of brown wearing girl never thought would happen.

And whereas before pink shadows made me think I looked sickly wearing them, the trend of nude shades has made them more versatile than bubblegum pink. And the love of nude shadows and palettes really came together in a glorious combination made famous by Urban Decay. But their palettes are around $54. Could there be a much more affordable alternative? This Dupe Detective put on her pink hat (of course) and got to work. I'll be comparing the Urban Decay Naked 3 vs. LA Girl Nudes palette. Do we have a dupe here? Keep reading to find out:

Can be easier to find online (try Amazon) than in stores. I've seen it at ULTA, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

The packaging is nothing fancy, and you might not like all of the ingredients (I linked to them above), but the colors are really pretty. I think you can get quite a few looks from this palette.

And what, fellow beauty enthusiasts, does this palette remind you of?

Online, ULTA, Sephora

Here we have a side by side comparison, with the L.A. Girl being on top. You can see there are some similar-looking shades, but not an exact dupe of every shade.

Let's try them on, shall we?

On your right, I am wearing UD naked 3, and on your left, L.A. Girl. By the way, those are my natural lashes--you might recall I got lash extensions at the beginning of May--here's to prove that no, having extensions didn't make my lashes fall out or ruin my eyes. It's all good, y'all.

And now for some swatches! L.A. Girl is on your left, UD is on your right.

I chose not to swatch every single shade, instead, only the definite dupes. It's hard to tell, but there are 5 definite dupes, with some shades being very similar, and some shades that are exclusive to each palette.

The quality of the shadows for both palettes is very similar. UD has some shimmery shades that have too much fall out. Covergirl has a Roses palette that is also similar, but it's around $12. I think if you are going for a dupe or similar palette that definitely won't break the bank, L.A. Girl Nudes is a great one to add.

Do you think this is a dupe?

Extra Elle:
Thanks for the love on my last post. I wish I would have opened up sooner. Thanks to your support, I am feeling more and more like myself every day. I love and appreciate you so much. Thank you.

  1. wow! the shades are really really close! it's looks cool! i don't think i've ever tried any thing form LA GIRL... :)

  2. I have been waiting for this post! I take forever to use up a pallet so I have shied away from getting the UD one. But i have no problem getting the LA Girl and if I use it i do, if not it won't break the bank! Thanks!!

  3. This looks like a wonderful alternative and it's good to know that there are some shades that are dupes between the two! They are all gorgeous colors though!

  4. Such a great comparison as always! I'm usually not a pink person, but there used to be an icy pink Too Faced eye shadow that I was obsessed with, so I bet I would actually like these palettes.

  5. I feel like these are the colors that are in EVERYTHING right now. So many choices out there.

  6. They look similar!! I'm glad there's a similar palette out there that is good quality and isn't as expensive! I like wearing pink from time to time, I'm a sucker for pastel pink too!

  7. This is such a great comparison post, Elle! Will you be doing a dupe post for the new Naked Heat?

  8. Ohhhhhhh so pretty on you!!!! I have the original Naked and the Naked Ultimate Basics so I dont really want to buy another expensive UD naked palette because I tend to only use a few colors regularly. I like that some of these colors are exact dupes and both lids look amazing that you did so I would totally try the LA one if I see it while I am out!

  9. Looks the same to me! I never pull the trigger on the full UD pallette because of price, I always get the smaller one and it lasts forever, but at that price, I might have to look for the dupe!

  10. I'm all about everything pink and these shades are gorgeous! This is definitely a dupe! BTW, your eyelashes look amazing!

  11. I've always been the total opposite to you and I love pink! I think this palette def looks like dupe. x

  12. these are super similar! thanks for sharing :)

  13. They look similar I use to have the naked 3 but I ended up giving it away to a friend because I hardly used it.

  14. I think they look close enough to consider them a dupe. I don't love UD shadows. I never reach for my Naked Palettes. Glad you found a much cheaper alternative!

  15. Ooh this does look like a good dupe! I don't have a Naked palette because (of course) I don't want to spend the money. I'd try this one though.
    And I love pink too!

  16. The Urban Decay Naked 3 is one of my favorite palettes during the summer!

  17. The dupes look pretty close and $12 is a really affordable price for the LA Girl palette.

  18. Both palettes look similar! I have the naked 3 palette, but I've found a few less expensive palettes in my collection that are dupes as well! Great post Elle!

  19. Wow the shades are almost identical! I have the original Naked palette which I love but the Naked 3 palette has been a huge disappointment for me with too many pinks tones which aren't suitable for my skin. Wish I bought the dupe!

  20. These are really close! I have a hard time justifying the expensive palettes so I am going to have to give this a try. Thanks

  21. It looks great.I love Urban Decay Naked 3 <3

  22. The Naked 3 palette is definitely my favorite and I swear that I use it all the time! I was never a huge fan of pink either, but now I can't get enough! That's so crazy how similar the shades of these two palettes are!

  23. I wasn't a pink girl either while growing up, and now I just want all the pink and rose shades! The Naked3 is one of my all time favorite palettes <3

  24. So good to know about this dupe! So much more affordable - thanks for sharing.

  25. They do look very similar. I was on the fence about purchasing the Naked 3 palette but my husband got me the first one for Christmas. I would probably pick up the LA girl one.

  26. I love the price of the LA girl palette as compared to the steep price of the UD. They look pretty close.

  27. I love a good "look for less"- us gals on a budget need to find those bargains!

  28. I have the Naked2 and I've had my eye on the 3 for a while. I love the girly, pink tones. I know I wouldn't use it all that much so that's what's stopped me from purchasing it. Glad to know the cheaper version is pretty good!

  29. Looks like a great alternative even if not an exact dupe. I might try the LA girl after all. (Im looking to experiment with eyeshadow - my least fave makeup)

  30. Hahaha I'm the same. Hated pink when I was younger but definitely a fan of it these days. Loving the shades of this palette. I'd say a great dude find indeed

  31. Dear Elle, here I am again after some weeks :) I missed your posts and you, but I really needed to stop a bit, to manage other projects. Now I can breathe again :) Just about, but it's good :) I like pink very much, and although I can't say I am a pink girl, I like it a lot :) Loved the palette, but I must confess that when I saw the 'thanks for the comments on my previous post" I went there. Maybe I should comment there, but alas, here I am. I didn't know about it and well, numbers plummeting happened to me now that I was out for some weeks. Believe me, that is not what you are, numbers, you are much more. I really hope you are feeling better now and anything, I would be happy to try to help (surely I am not the owner of the truth and I know you have friends in person, but anyway!)

  32. These colors are identical! Love a good dupe!

  33. The colors are nice, but yes ingredients make a difference. May be wise to research some of them before purchasing.

  34. I felt the same way about pink when I was growing up! And by "growing up" I mean, like even through college, haha! But I've learned to embrace it since then (and get over the stereotypes about it like you said). I will say, blue is still my favorite color so my poor baby has more blue than pink clothes just because that's what I'm drawn to. I'm pretty sure people are going to tell me what a handsome little boy I have, haha!

  35. I hated the UD Naked 3, so thank you for the heads up to steer clear of this one as well! I just felt for such a high end palette, the colors should have been perfect and they were so messy and lacked pigmentation. /:

  36. I wear makeup so infrequently that I've never felt like it made sense to invest in the Naked palettes. But this is definitely in my budget!
