How To: Curl Your Hair With Velcro Rollers

When I was in West Virginia a few weeks ago, we stopped in Gabriel Brothers. Among my bargains was this pack of velcro rollers for a dollar! I haven't used rollers in a while, since I generally favor a flat iron or curling iron/wand, so I thought this would be a great way to change my routine. Velcro rollers are easy to use and can be used to add volume to hair. Let's see how I did it:

Tools:

• Velcro rollers (I used the biggest size--a whole pack...9 I think)
• Clips (use whatever will keep the roller in, aka whatever you've got on hand)
• Comb or brush
• Hairspray or volumizing product
• Hairdryer 
• Curling iron & heat protectant spray, if your hair is really hard to curl

Method:

• Start with clean, dry hair. Part hair as your normally would--I know the traditional way is to divide hair into 3 sections, but I find it easier to style if I do it my way.

• Take sections, about as wide as your roller, and spray with hair spray or a volumizing product. 
• Take velcro roller and roll under hair, all the way to roots. 
• Spray once more and attach clip to hold roller. 
• Once all of hair is rolled, do a quick blow dry over head to add heat and set curls. 
• Use this time to do makeup (or check my blog, hehe).
• After 20 minutes or so, begin to take out rollers. I've found that sticking fingers inside the roller and gently pulling down makes roller removal easier.
• Run fingers through hair and set with spray.

Tips: 

• Don't roll hair wet--it will harder to roll. Unless you've got a fancy salon drier, hair will much longer to dry and results aren't as good. If you must, wait until hair is almost completely dry (slightly damp) to roll.
• If your hair is hard to curl, curl a section with a curling iron and then roll while hair is still hot. The velcro rollers will help hold the curl.
